I also felt the need to clarify she was a woman. Furthermore, I even clarified she was young (smells like age discrimination! ) I could have of course said "It's a sad thing to see a human losing their life", and it would have been just as true. I did not think twice of 'white', nor 'woman' nor 'young'.
It is funny though how that one word got the attention even if nothing sinister was behind it, and a valid lesson for me of the cultural differences between countries. Someone's innocent word is someone's taboo word.
