A sneak peak

A new CD already! Congratulations... Seems a bit soon? Well then again, you guys could release a new CD every week and I'd be happy if it was good. And you haven't disappointed yet. :P

Well, "The Novella Reservoir" came out in February 2007. This new one is being recorded in early 2009, for release tentatively planned for late spring/early summer 2009. That's well over two years since the last one, so that's not really all that soon. There was two years between TPHD and TNR, so that's pretty much our standard :)

You know, I would be offended that you just slammed Blind Guardian, but then again, you are a Queensryce fan.. ShaZaam!!!

Hey, I've been listening to Blind Guardian all morning! Didn't mean that to come off as a slam against them. I love Jon Schaffer's quote that Hansi's recordinigs sound like an army of Hansi's, which is completely accurate.

Ha, I know. Just giving you some crap.
I am not a QR hater by the way.
Just an easy band to rag on, esp with their more recent output.

Anyhow, back on topic............

Will there be any "guest" musicians on the new release?

Actually, I've considered 2 people, but in order for us to use them, it really MUST PUMP UP the moment.

We shall see.

Swano mixed TNR, but there wasn't really any specific plans for him to appear on it as a musician. Had he offered up an idea of a musical contribution he could've made, we would've definitely considered it, but it didn't come up *shrug* He played a solo on a song on TPHD, so that was cool.

Guest musicians are cool when they've really got something to offer to the song and it makes 100% sense to have them involved, otherwise I think it's just gratuitous and unnecessary.

Per Vito's post, I think that "girly man" or should make an apperance in the lyrics of a song.

From a fan perspective, guest musicians would be cool as hell - my first reaction to Paul's clean vocals were a comparison to Swano's cleans, hint hint.

Even a growling duet would rock - I don't think I've ever heard that before.

OK - serious question here for musical ignoramuses like myself:

What is the actual definition of a blast beat? Is there something specific that sets it apart from "spastic off-beat drumming"? I think I know one when I hear one, but I don't know how to tell "sounds like the drummer can't play fast enough to keep up" versus an actual intentional blast beat.
