Summary by chronological order of bands:
Second Stage
Darkest Hour-Eh... they were okay at best, sounded like any other metalcore band
Throwdown-Awful! they sounded exactly like hatebreed, they even had a song where the whole chorus was the line "You fucking bastards" repeated over and over again
Magna-Fi- Pretty bad... though a break from all the metalcore.. sounded kinda hard rockish/emo (they even had a song called "Where Did We Go Wrong?")
Devildriver-Bad band, but soo good compared to the previous bands... they were decent at best though.
Otep-More of amusing set than a good one. Way too much of an attempt to be theatrical and dramatic (which might work in a dark venue late at night, but certainly not outside on a sunny day at 11 am for 20 minutes). Though one cool thing was when they played their last song, the vocalist lady was like "We'd like to dedicate this song to George W. Bush" and the entire band extended their middle fingers. haw haw haw... yeah but musically they weren't anything special
God Forbid-Now these guys i was kinda impressed by... pretty metalcorish, but different. A sense of melody, and there were some good solos in there. their set was alright.
Unearth-Awful. Enough said.
Everytime I Die- See "Unearth".
Lacuna Coil- FINALLY! a good, very talented band. They gave an excellent, but short, performance (and only material off of comalies which was disappointing). I was disappointed by the crowd response though. A couple hatebreed shirt toting bastards next to me kept on yelling "YOU SUCK! WE WANT HATEBREED!!" and stuff like that. I wanted to punch them. On a side note, Christina Scabbia possibly looked the hottest i have ever seen her (this was my 4th time seeing them live).
Bleeding Through-Eh, okay, nothing special... i didn't stick around for their set all that long.
Atreyu (Agayru)-Fortunately this band got stuck in canada or something, so they didn't show up. Thank god, because they suck so much.
Lamb of God-FREAKING INTENSE! My vote for the best of second stage... they played so awesomly, and it was cool for me because i had just started to get into them, and they played a new song off of their upcoming album (august 31st is the release date i believe). So awesome.
Hatebreed-Dunno, i hate that band so much that i didn't stick around for their performance..
Slipknot-See "Hatebreed".
Main Stage
Black Label Society-They were okay, songs aren't anything that good, just ordinary hard rock. However, Zakk's guitar playing, as we all know, is phenomenal... and he impressed with his solos.
Superjoint Ritual (Super Gay Ritual)-See "Hatebreed" (i stood in line and got food instead of watching this crappy ass band).
Dimmu Borgir-FANTASTIC. Good performance, great music .
Slayer-They played flawlessly, and most of the great classics like "mandatory suicide", "dead skin mask", "war ensemble" ("AAARE YOOOU READY FOR WAAR?!"), "south of heaven", and the ever famous "Raining Blood" were played.
Judas Priest-...
Awesome. Halford is a great singer, and he could be a death metal vocalist if he wanted to (i didn't know he could growl haha). Band played flawlessly, and they played PAINKILLER!!!!! woo!
Black Sabbath-The mighty sabbath were half amusing/half amazing. Tony is such a good guitar player, i love his solos. Ozzy sung off key most of the time , but hey, he's gettin' old, what do you expect? They played the greats: "War Pigs", "Black Sabbath", "Children of the Grave", and "Iron Man". All in all, I greatly enjoyed their performance.
A quick summary: The 'fest was pretty much 1/2 crappy and 1/2 awesome. The latter half made it worthwhile, indeed. I also got surprised a couple times during the day, like having 4 or 5 people comment on my suffocation shirt (it was unexpected heh). Oh, and if you just read all of that... you have too much time on your hands.
