I know you can't get a record deal these days without being a fulltime rehearsing, live band. Still I'd like to be able to make a few bucks on the music, not so I can quit my daytime job or anything... but like, if I spend months on writing and recording music it would be cool get enough money to buy a pizza and maybe a couple of beers. Does enyone have any good tips on websites where you can sell your songs? I was checking out iTunes a while ago but from what understand you must have a record company or something to sell your stuff there?

Uplioad your best song to myspace, upload some of your other favorite songs, but limit them to like 30 seconds before the first refrain.
Then you could burn out some "demos" with like 5 songs at home, and sell them for about 5 bucks each and sell them after gigs(If you dont completely suck, you will sell atleast 2 each gig.).
Then you can allways get a cool logo for your band, and print it on some t-shirts on one of those online sites where you can create your own line of clothes, cups etc. and you will get about 30% for each one that is sold, from there on its just about taking yourself the time to put yourself out there.

Other than that, its really hard to earn money(exept for the part of getting paid each gig, if you are gigging that is.).

Check out CDBaby.com ... I know a lot of local bands that have sold CDs through that website fairly successfully in the past. You must have printed CDs to send though.

IMO the days of making money off CD's is dead. If you are looking to make some money back it's all about the other merch you have available. Give your music away and create a buzz so people want to buy your shirts and attend shows!

Bullshit, my band signed to Napalm in July and at the time, hadn't (and still haven't) all been in the same room at the same time in well over a year and a half.

Chin up dude, it could happen!

^hey Gav I saw that you're playing MetalCamp as well this year! Congrats! Did Napalm set up all the touring/shows for?
And btw: Do you know if they were looking out for bands by the time they signed you or did they just happen to like your stuff and signed you because of that?
To how many record companies did you actually send "the famous email" ;) ?

1) Nah, we've got a booking manager who i hired, not napalm.
Austrian also, actually

2) Duno

3) Just napalm. It was the only label we ever contacted. We had interest from other ones, but they emailed us.

Cool. :Smokedev: Why did you only choose Napalm and didn't give the bigger ones a try as well?
Now I wonder who that booker is. Werner?
