AC/DC done?

I know a lot of metal people hate them, but they're still one of my faves. The health concern thing initially made me think Brian Johnson but it seems from quotes it isn't him. I'm guessing it's Malcolm.

Metal people hate them? Whatever I guess.

In truth, who can blame them no matter the reason. They've had a hell of a run.

A lot of my friends who love metal hate AC/DC. Certainly have had a run. I think it's probably time especially since Brian's voice has been deteriorating for some time now.

They've had a helluva run. I'll do my best to catch a show. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to Back in Black. It's such a great recording.

I'm one who cannot stand AC/DC. Two bands that I just cannot tolerate (and I fully admit it makes no rational sense) are AC/DC and Judas Priest. I understand how influential both are, but man..... They are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Still and all, hats off to them on a great career.

I don't like AC/DC in the slightest, but it would certainly be a shame if this is how they ended, rather than on their own terms. I've seen some recent live videos and they definitely still have "it", enough at least for that album they were planning on recording and a tour supporting it.

I'll treat this as a rumor until the band issues an official statement though.

I heard it's because Malcom had a stroke which left a blood clot in his brain. I guess it's affected his playing to the point where the band decided it was best not to continue. Hopefully this is all just speculation or a hoax. I'd hate to see such an iconic band go out like this.

I don't like Priest either, but to me that's just preference. Not widespread hate like Simon made it seem. All of my metal friends like AC/DC.

Interesting they're continuing on. I heard somewhere they had a contract that if any of the members left or anything, they wouldn't continue. I guess it's always possible that for the recording Angus will do all the guitar parts.

I honestly don't know anyone who hates AC/DC from beginning to end.
They were the first show I attended in 1979, and while nothing after For Those About To Rock floats my boat, except for Black Ice, they still get kudos from me for still kicking it, live & in the studio. Black Ice was the first AC/DC cd I had bought in YEARS, and enjoy most of it.

Oh, and I too find the Bon Scott era far superior to what they have been doing, but Back In Black is probably the "comeback" record of my generation..... Those were the days! :)

Right here. I never liked them and never saw the mass appeal, no matter how hard I tried.

A few songs had some nice hooks, but their songwriting and playing has always been very much by the same simple formula that they came up with in the 70s, which I never found to be interesting at all.

I'm sort of curious as to when you first heard AC/DC, because if it was after Flick Of The Switch, I'd almost agree, but in 1978 they were a cool riffy hard rock bamd that caught my attention as a young lad.... No harm no foul, I know people who love the Bon Scott era, and hate Brian Johnson, and vice versa....

It was probably Dirty Deeds.. I definitely prefer the Bon Scott era, if I have to listen to one or the other, but my normal choice would not be AC/DC. :)

Maybe I was a prog snob even as a young man, with a disdain for vacuous lyrics. :)

AC/DC TO RELEASE ROCK OR BUST ON NOVEMBER 28TH; MALCOLM YOUNG OFFICIALLY RETIRES FROM BAND

According to News.com.au, AC/DC have confirmed Malcolm Young has officially retired from the band as they reveal their new record Rock Or Bust will be released on November 28.

The 15th studio record from the enduring band will be their first without Malcolm in their 40-year career.

“Unfortunately due to the nature of Malcolm’s illness, he will not be rejoining the band,” they said in a statement issued by their label Alberts and Sony Music Australia.

The band confirmed they will embark on a world tour in honour of Rock Or Bust and their 40th anniversary, with Angus and Malcolm Young’s nephew Steve joining as guitarist.

Rock Or Bust features 11 tracks written solely by Angus Young, recorded in 10 days at Bryan Adams’ Warehouse Studio in Vancouver and produced by Brendan O’Brien.

I can understand why you might not like AC/DC - they aren't my favorite. But Priest? like every Prog Metal / Power Metal band owe a debt to Halford. He made that singing style acceptable and cool. and Painkiller is one of the top 10, if not top 5, metal albums of all time.
