Accelerated Evolution

Ocean Machine is utter brilliance - one of my top 3 albums of all time. I can't praise this album enough.

In order, The officially released Dev albums go: (in my opinion)

1. Ocean Machine
2. Terria
3= Infinity / Accelerated Evolution
5. Ziltoid
6. Synchestra
7. Physicist

I do love them all, but Physicist was too much like a poorer SYL. And even most SYL doesn't compare to the 'City' album.

No doubt. I love the transition from the high note to the blood curdling scream at the very end of Storm where he says 'stay with me....aahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!'. Unbelievable performance. Word.

no doubt. I always pound that shit when i get really wasted. that song just has so much... feel lol dead head is also a notable fav off that album

Material is my favourite powerpop song, Hyperdrive is my favourite pop song

And SYL is still my favourite SYL song (closely followed by underneath the waves)

Yeah, Terria is next on my list to buy, definitely. I'm glad I'm not the only one with mixed feelings on Synchestra, I started a thread on it awhile ago and everyone was like "It's amazing, it'll grow on you"

Aah yes... Terria... my favorite Devin Townsend album.
Mind you, this is coming from someone who thought accelarated Evolution was not the best DT album... i dont like the straight forward period of the DT band(AE) and SYL (SYL) that much.

Terria is a grower as well... it takes a few listens, but there is just so much beauty to be found in that album, it's unreal.

Infinity... his weirdest album for sure.. has a few amazing songs on it, good vibe.

Ocean Machine... same for me, i dont like everything on it, but what i like, is just amazing.

See, when it comes to Strapping Young Lad, I only have SYL, City, and The New Black, but City is quite honestly my least favorite; the only song that I truly love is "All Hail the New Flesh," with all the others just being "eh" to "pretty good" IMO (except for Room 429, which I fucking HATE; all those damn chromaticisms in the chorus are just so...I dunno, doo-wop or something). I can't decide whether I prefer SYL or The New Black, cuz both have great songs, but both have some forgettable "eh" songs as well; in fact, of the 5 Devin CD's I've listened to substantially (the aforementioned three SYL's, Ziltoid, Synchestra), there's always a song or two that I feel are just really inferior to the rest; I feel he has a bad habit of stretching some things out for too long (like the intro of "Spirituality," jesus fucking christ), and the fact that I have yet to encounter an album of his where every single song is just infallibly awesome (like "This Godless Endeavour, my most recent of MANY experiences of this) is holding him back from becoming an all-out hero of mine like Daniel Gildenlow or Mikael Akerfeldt. But I'm still very new to his stuff, so time will tell!
