Anyone caught them this summer?
What do you think of this one-shot reunion?

I'm off for two days, on my way to Pratteln (Switzerland), one of their last headlining performances of the tour.
I saw them in Bologna 2 months ago at the Gods of Metal fest', a great experience in itself but it was waaaaayyy too short and the locals didn't seem to get into the band that much, which was a bit disapointing.... now the german part of Switzerland calls me for a full Accept show done the right way, at last!

PS : Wolf Hoffmann is (still) God! I know that Bryant agrees fully :D

One of the only bands I've never seen (that I wanted to see). It would be a dream come true. Only had a couple of chances when they opened for Maiden and DIO back in the mid-80's, but I couldn't make it for whatever reason...probably a school night. :waah: ...waiting very impatiently for them to tour the US, although I know the chances are very slim...not as slim as Loudness touring the US, but slim. At least I got to see Loudness once....

The place was packed like I had never seen it!
And that was a freakin' awesome show, even better than the gig in Italy.

This is for sure one of the most sincere live reunions I've seen, along with Death Angel, the fun factor within this band is so obvious! One can see that they truly have the time of their lives, this is just not another cash-in reunion. They won't record anything new anyway. And I hope so ;)
Wolf Hoffmann was as impressive if not more than ever before, I'm still in awe and shock after seeing him nail all the leads just like 20 years ago! The guy's got such a charisma, a smiling presence, relentlessly working the crowd, playing with sooooo much feeling and class. Wolf really gives the word "class" its full meaning. He's the heart and soul of Accept, the one that draws everybody's attention during the whole set.
Seriously, I've always been a die-hard fan since I heard him for the first time, but now after this kind of show I would even put him aside Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker, Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Dimebag and the likes, Wolf Hoffmann belongs to the best guitar masters IMO. No kidding. If I were a woman I would be in love :D
Hell, he even played a medley of classical interpretations from his solo album, done in a very rock 'n roll and bluesy way, truly awesome as he never shows off but rather plays each note with a lot of passion :worship:

Herman Frank is a perfect fit on the second rythm guitar, he's not a newcomer by any means since he was already there on the Balls to the Wall album & tour, and honestly nobody miss Jorg Fischer. I know I don't! Peter Baltes still has that funny smiling face and even did a bass solo (longer than the one on the Stayin a Life live record), while Stefan Schwarzmann sounds like he's been in the band forever. As for Udo well I must admit that he's a bit more tired than the other guys and one can see he has aged, but his sharp voice has remained the same over the years :) He even had a smile here and there, something you rarely see from him ahah
Overall the german outfit was as tight and mean as on Stayin' a Life (still one my favorite live recordings ever), I can die like a happy man now :Spin:

As for the setlist all the classics are here as you can see below, tons of material for some serious headbanguing and air guitar action!

20. Princess Of The Dawn
21. Burning

22. Balls To The Wall

I didn't expect "Burning", "TV War" and "Monsterman" which was way cool! I would have loved to hear "Midnight Mover", "Screaming for a Love Bite" and "Winter Dreams" though... oh well, fans always complain, right?

One funny thing happened when they mixed up "Love Child" with "Flash Rockin' Man"... twice! First time, Udo introduced "Flash Rockin Man" but the band played "Love Child", and later in the set he yelled "Flaaaaash rockin maaaaaan", still they started playing "Love Child" again, now with Udo singing the lyrics for "Flash Rockin' Man" He got lost eventually, they realized the whole mess and laughed about it, then put their shit together to play the right song ahah. Otherwise everything else was played perfectly, in the traditional german way.
There were also a few changes within the songs, ie the extended dual lead in "Fast as a Shark", or the solo part in "Metal Heart" which is now a mix of the Stayin' version with the Final Chapter version, but most of the set was played exactly like on Stayin' a Life.

That was Accept '05, maybe for the last time ever (?), old-school metal for old-school freaks! :loco: :hotjump:

=> I never take pics but you can find some cool lookin' photos of the show here : http://www.manyfaced.com/html/galerie-accept.php

Well, getting an Accept record or two will bring a much better answer than I could ever give ;)

I actually have been watching this thread for a couple of days because everyone expected me to fly off the handle with it. :loco: I am sooo jealous Flo !! I would love to see Accept. Wolf IS THE MAN !! He has the perfect blend of technical excellence and soul in his playing. Wolf made a solo once out of mostly chords in "Guardian of the Night." He didn't care that it wasn't technically brilliant........... he cared that it sounded good and it is one of my fave solos by him. When God made Wolfgang Hoffmann, he threw away the mold.
Having said that, Wolf is Wolf, but Accept IS Accept. No Peter, no Udo and no Wolf and it is not Accept. That album they did without Udo wasn't bad, but it wasn't Accept. I would have loved to catch that show Flo !!

Bryant

Bryant, here's a brand new interview with Hoffmann, there are a few interesting things said :

It seems like Wolf wants to do another Accept record with the current line-up, but Udo doesn't want it at all. And the old feud between Udo and Wolf (+ the rest of the band) still goes on nowadays... :erk: Fortunately you can't tell it when you see them on stage.
