Acoustic diffusers: Is it worth the price?

Hello friends,

I write you guys here, to ask for some guidance with acoustics.
My control room has less than basic treatment, and i'm not
really happy with the panels for my mixing position.

I wonder if these diffusers a friend of mine has on sale can help
either my mixing position or my vocal both by placing them on the ceiling.

They're a kind of rock solid plastic material.
And in USD they'd be around 120$.

Would this be worth the price? or should i save up for some specialized foamy
material?

I would suggest looking into bass absorbers for your mixing room, and then making ghetto diffusion in the vocal booth with carpets/whatever you can find.

High frequencies are much easier to subdue than lows, and those diffusers seem like they would only help with high frequencies.

If you can find out what PLastic it is it might help you make the judgement call. But, You normally want your diffusors to be a hard material and not have any absorption unless specified by the manufacturer. The goal is to disperse the sound waves throughout your room instead of capturing them. Diffusors tend to bring a little life back into a dead room. Maybe ask if you can test them out for a day? Put them on your back wall and fuck around with some reverbs listening in and out of some good headphones. Always a good a/b test.

Taking note here or your suggestions.

Mr Beer, you're right. I'll choose the bass traps purchase, and start a/bing!
Now; i know it's kind of hard to tell/advice via internet but
i've noticed that when i clap around the left side of the room there's a real NASTY
'Ping' sound thats non existent on the mixing position or the back/right.

I thought that these diffusers could help?

Start with Bass traps and then move on from there. Getting the low end under control is much more of a big deal, and much harder to do.
