Active Electronics Without Batteries?

Me too, I don't see what's the problem in changing a battery every once in while. And a battery inside the instrument doesn't cause any problem either.

So... ...VERY useless device.

All my ESP's have battery compartments, so I don't need to bust out the screwdriver, but I never need to do that in a live scenario anyway, as I always make sure my battery is fresh before shows.

Heh.. thats kinda funny actually.

I mean.. from a design standpoint.. and the dudes who sat around and thought about it...

lol.

Why would it be so useless? Put the thing in your rack (if you have one that is... if not, f**k it).. then plug your guitar into it. you'd never have to worry about your battery anymore, and it all turn on/off with your rig :)

EDIT:
Just reread, the darn thing has to use a battery. bah. if it could use a 9v power supply it would be great.

Hmmm... the only situation I can see this coming in handy is if you have a guitar that you want to put EMGs into, but there's nowhere to fit a battery in there. Perhaps it has some sort of sentimental value, and you don't want to carve a big, rectangular hole into it. Or, you're scared of soldering, although you'll still have to solder the jack and selector and knobs.... hmmm. It does seem a little silly. The battery indicator light is nice, though. Credit there.

I'll be happy the day they decide to make guitars (with active electronics) use phantom power, and all you'd have to use is trs cables instead of line cables. Cool in theory, but I don't think they will jump on it for a while. It would be an industry jump...all amps would have to have it included, and people would have to get thiers modded if it were older than the newer ones carrying it.

Nice theory, huh?

I'm talking to where it's as simplistic as plugging your mic's into mixers with phantom power, you know? It's as simple as plugging it in, and pushing a button. 1 cable...not 2, and one a stereo cable, bla bla bla.....simplicity is the idea. I could easily make my guitar use a power supply....thats not hard, but then I have more of a cable mess going on. All you need is like one of those Godlyke pedal power deals and the adaptor that hooks to 9-volt connections. Bingo...but thats not the point. Thats not as simple.

now heres an idea: a little kinetic generator your wear in your hair, everytime you head bang it charges up the battery!

More incentive to bang that head.

:tickled: Oh my, that's brilliant. Someone on the Pod forums once suggested a device that attaches to your face and measures muscle position; that way, when you make your "GUITAR FACE" when you pull off those virtuoso riff (come on, we all do it), it boosts your gain. These two devices together would make you some sort of unstoppable Metal robot.

I don't really think that the idea to hook your guitar with a trs cable to a box, one cable from the box to the amp is that hard :P just 1 extra cable.

and in the little longer run, if it were to become standard, how would that be with non-active instruments? and with vintage amps that don't have that phantom power circuit? it would in the end require some box like this :)

I'm actually thinking of building one.

Dude....just think about the mics that don't require phantom power, and the ones that do. Some people have phantom power supplies for those too, so whats the difference? The point was thinking of having guitars/basses with active electronics that were phantom power-ready...and amps would have it built into them. Simple idea.

And the point is still that you'd need a phantom box if you in the future wanted to use an amp that didn't have the circuit.

I'm not saying you are wrong, and I really don't know why you are trying to put me in my place on it, but there...it's all already been said: an amp that has phantom power, just like a mixer...ones that like thieir old amps can have thiers modded to carry phantom power, or they can get an outboard phantom power supply. The point is quit geeking out about it!
