I have a Tobias Toby Pro 5 Bass with Active Electronics. I was never excited about the Pickups as they are Tobias cheapos. I just ordered EMG PUPS for it and a BTS System 2 Band Preamp which I assumed would replace the Active Electronics that came with the Toby Pro 5.
I received everything and opened up the bass to discover that the existing Active Electronics in the control cavity is massive. Its about a 4inch by 5 inch circuit board filled with all kinds of resistors, transistors etc powered by the 9volt battery.
The EMG BTS System I received has replacement knobs/POTS with a tiny circuit board and wiring that connects to the PUPS.
I am wondering if I should even be replacing the active electronics that came with the Tobias for the less elaborate EMG stuff.
I know nothing about it and assume its doing the same job with the same 2 band EQ adjustments but I wouldnt know whether the Tobias active EQ is better and should just throw the EMG PUPS in.
Anyone familiar with the Tobias active electronics and which one to go with?
