I need a condenser mic to pair with the sm57 and I wanna check these mics because I found a great deal for these 2 mics (same price). I found wonderfull opinions on the net but I didn't find any particular sample/impressions with hi gain guitars.
I only know that s-51 was used by several danish producers (the most famous) and in those albums guitars sounded great!
This is the S-51:

There is also another model, the S7. Reading the description it seems a guitar oriented mic but I've never listen anything.
"•For All Ultra-High-SPL Sources- Clean @ 150 dB! Ideal for Loud Rock, Metal, Heavy-Industrial, yet nuanced and pristine on acoustic sources."

So....has anyone of you ever listened some recording or used them in first person?

Good enough for Eddie Kramer

I have one, its in storage right now but im pretty sure it was an A-51 MK1 it has a black body and silver mesh head, looks like what they later named as the Hamburg.
It sounded good the last time i used it for a guitar cab, i have no real memory of the tone it just worked well for what i needed at the time.
Build quality was good for the price (i seem to remember the low cut and pad switches being a little cheap feeling but apart from that all good.

Thank you Digital,
I asked to ADK which is the better mic for guitars between these 2 and they said:

"The S-7 - Absolutely !!

If your cabs are tubes and extra "hissy" or your
tone has a lot of 'fret-noise' - then we'd say go
with an S-7B. In Between those two colors is
the Hamburg Mk8, which I use on both my vocals
and my Cabs. But those three mics are Superb !!

S-7 - Neutral
H-8 Slightly Mellow
S-7B Very Mellow (almost Ribbon-Like)."
