adopting dogs vs buying from a breeder

oops lets try that one again..
dogs

so lemme get this straight... whoever made this, found pictures of dirty dogs that just need to be taken to the groomer and said they were from a breeder... the cleaner, more well groomed dogs were the ones from the shelter... because that's what it looks like.

i support shelters. i would've gotten my dog from a shelter if any shelters had what i wanted. there are however a lot of people who want purebred puppies. you can't unfortuneatly find a lot of those... around here anyway.

I agree. I give a flying rat's ass if my dog or cat has "its papers". In fact, it's better to not be pure-bred. Why do you think we make in-breeding jokes? Hmmm.

the point is that people shell out hundreds if not thousands of dollars for these dogs and you can get the same dog at a shelter. You are then providing it with a loving home at little to no cost. And if it is a kill shelter your saving its life.

Unless you're using the dog for a special task like hunting or for show(which I think is gay as fuck but to each their own) there's no real benefit in shelling out for a pure bred dog. There's WAY too many dogs in shelters that need owners and you can almost definitely find what you're looking for there if you look around enough.

Yeah I wish more people would go to their local Animal Shelter. I run a Pet Store and whenever someone comes in looking for a dog (I won't sell any) I try and steer them to the local APL.
Good work! I can't go to PetSmart and see the cats from the shelter...I want them all!
Reminds me...when I visited Rome I visited their cat sanctuary, right in some below-street-level ruins. Rome has a big stray cat problem; vets don't push people to neuter, so they don't, and cats are abandoned left and right.

Shelters and Rescue Society have lots of dogs that need homes and/or waiting lists for people looking for that certain dog. I have volunteered lots of my time to local shelters. Often when you get on the waiting lists you can get the dog before it spends time in the shelter saving both stress for the dog and money for the shelter. Rescues are often like foster care for dogs. I cant do that myself because I would end up with 100 dogs
