I just bought a Alesis D4.
(Im a metal drummer and at least I need to own one to be metal :-)

Can anyone share their experience of what sounds/Fx to use?
I looking for the Stratovarius/Masterplan/Testament sounds.

I normally do all triggering with Drumagog but since I mainly do bands smaller bands with no budget that wanna have a FAT sound in NO time I wanna try out the D4.

100 % beat detective so I will do it the German way, fast and hard.. he,he

By the way.. check out my new studio homepage!

I would not recommend the D4 for studio use unless it's for quick demo work. It's like a POD for drummers.
"Alive Or Just Breathing" would like to have a word with you.

I've had some great results using the "kinetic" kick, and the "fat city" and "r/c centre" (if my memory serves me correctly) snares mixed in with the real snare tracks. I believe it was "fat city" that andy used on A.O.J.B.?? Very 80's snare sound

My apologies here: I got confused, thought we were talking about the DM5, which I think is great live but not great for the studio.... I've never even used a D4. Sorry! I think my brain may still be recovering from Sunday's In Flames show, where Trivium covered 2 Pantera tracks with Robb Flynn.

If my memory serves me correct, I think Andy used a mixture of two samples from the d4 to create the bassdrum sample on "The gathering" - damn, if i can remember.....i think it was a mix between fusion/thud or fusion/monster...probably the first one

this is funny, because last week I recorded a band who uses D4 to trigger kicks live, and I sampled the crap out it while I had the chance.

I found a lot of really useful snare sounds, and a few good kicks. Seems like I wind up scooping a LOT of low-mids from a lot of these kick samples to get the right sound, but it works eventually.

The tom samples on the other hand are pretty useless.

I also recorded samples from our drummers D4 a couple of weeks ago and after playing around with the samples I noticed that I was doing the same thing as you...
I really dig some of the kick sounds, especially when 2 different sounds mixed together. Some of the snares aren't too bad either... I just don't know if they would work that well by themselves.
