ALEX SKOLNICK - THE NEW ORDER

He was playin Ibanez back then. You never know though. Satch used his Kramer for Surfing...and that's around the same time. ESP is listed in the liner notes. Oh that's guitar. Fuck me. Anything but that scooped rhythm.

Cheers guys

I considered emailing alex but i thought that would be one of the most annoying over asked questions he gets ha....i guess not though as no-one seems to know for certain.
Rhythms are pretty weak but that lead tone completely rules in my opinion

I don't know where the quote is, but Alex said it was noisy as hell, but he used to run the ADA through the FRONT of a JCM 800, not the return.

I've heard that before too; ADA MP-1 through the input of the JCM 800. If he was using a single channel 800, there's no loop without modding the amp. For what it's worth, I had a '76 JMP 2204 for a while, and I had no problems running preamps through the low gain input. I could totally believe Alex could get a good tone running a pre through the input of an old Marshall. I've heard of others doing that before as well.

interesting thread.
btw, as far as i know alex used pretty much the exact same setup for everything he did with old school testament; the different lead tones on the records are merely a result of different mix/mastering as well as different settings, guitars etc.
does anyone know what he's using nowadays? IIRC he used jcm900 amps for the live in london dvd show? also, does anybody know whether that album was reamped or not? not my favorite live mix, or live dvd for that matter i might say, though....
and last but not least, imho the new order has actually the best rhythm tone if not the best overall production out of the old school testament stuff..their first record sounds also surprisingly good, but i still prefer the somewhat edgier sound of TNO.
so much for the "horribly scooped rhythm sound"....you also ain't bitching about dime's sound being scooped to hell and back, do you?
