ALICE IN CHAINS Frontman Passes Away At Age 34 - Apr. 20, 2002

Even if he must have been aware of what he was doing, I still am feeling sorry for him as he really was a great singer no matter how I hate grunge music in general. He really had his own style, gave basic to many-many others and managed to gather great musicians around him. AIC had some great moments, some good songs no matter what.

RIP Layne Staley.

but wore, dirty underwear....

PERAL JAM, AND MUDHONEY THEY were all grunge....

Sorry Allhater, I just don't see it that way, to me AIC was one of the bands that fueled the grunge shit that killed metal. I'm not mourning, in fact I'm going out to celebrate.

It is obvious you never listened to them...
What metal died? Glam metal? Good! That was worse than most Grunge!

Grunge did not kill metal...even if it did,it would've been the Nirvana and Pearl Jam pop shit.Alice in Chains WERE metal.True, loud, angry metal, just w/some melodies and acoustic stuff. What the hell kind of metal do you think grunge killed?-Poison,Motley Crue,Bon Jovi...that IS NOT metal.
But besides all of that, how on Earth could you celebrate someone's death?Layne Staley never caused you any personal harm, did he?That would be the only reason I could see for celebrating anyone's death.

Different strokes.........

I did listen to AIC, I didn't have much choice, they were on the radio every five fucking minutes.
I'm just stating my opinion, but radio around here was Slayer,Testament, Judas Priest, etc, and after Kurt played the first note on Smells Like Teen Spirit, all I ever heard was Nirvana,Pearl Jam,AiC, to me that's no where near metal, maybe I'm stuck in the 80's, but oh well, that's just me.
Celebrating his death, not exactly, celebrating the fact that I won't have to endure anything new from them, yes.

AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!GODDAMN IT! UGHHH! Man, I bet nocturnal burns dead gremlins! AIC was an awesome goddamn band and Layne was an awesome goddamn singer! Sure, AIC isn't as heavy as most of the stuff most of us here listen to, but god, don't be so musically narrow-minded! AIC was and always will be one of my favorite bands, along with KISS!!! The death of Layne Staley is a damn shame. If I had known him I would have locked him in my dungeon with nothing but food and water until he was cleansed of the heroin. Sure he knew the dangers of the drug, but not everyone has a strong enough or resistant enough system to just quit. Damn the person who gave him his first needle! It's just a shame, a real shame, and shame on anyone who is celebrating over it! People like that eventually get theirs!

what's your favorite AIC song? Mine would have to be "Would?". Now "Down In A Hole" has a whole new meaning, a literal one. That sucks. I was REALLY hoping for an AIC reunion but now that's down the toilet. This whole thing has made me really angry, frustrated, and sad. It's hard to believe he's gone.  :(

favorite is either We Die Young or Man In The Box, theres too many good songs by them to really tell... i was hopin for a reunion as well, oh well.. maybe the other members will join up with some singer and play a tour in memory of Layne

at least they'd still have Jerry Cantrell's vocals. wonder what he's up to these days. i wasn't very impressed with his "Boggy Depot".

Ever since I heard about Layne's tragic passing (a moment of silence for the deceased, please)I've been listening to nothing but the 2 AiC cds that I have-Dirt and the self titled one- no Nevermore,Immolation,Cradle of Filth,Type~O~Negative,Death Angel, etc. Alice in Chains has become one of my new favorite cds.I love "Brush Away","Sludge Factory","Again","Shame in You", "Nothin' Song" and "Over Now".There's so much emotion in Layne's voice and all of the music is just totally raw and awesome.
It would've kicked ass if AiC was to get back together, but I doubt their newer stuff would've been as good as the first cds.

Ok, I understand now, I'm thick headed and narrow minded, not to mention I burn gremlins? just because I PERSONALLY don't like AiC, sorry I got in everyone's face, you all were right and I'm wrong, long live AiC......oops, sorry nevermind.
