Alice in Chains

Even after their glam days, they were marketed as a metal band, before "grunge" was a niche. To wit, I saw them open for the Clash of the Titans tour (Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth)....

Dirt was my fave album for ages after it came out. The combo of heavy groovy riffs and cool vocal harmonies really did it for me after listening to extreme metal for so long.. Jar of Flies was also great.

Dirt is an essential 90's album. I enjoy everything by Alice In Chains and they are great musicians and solid song writers.

Dirt is great. By far the best thing they've ever released.

Dirt is one of the most amazing albums, which i think is closer to metal than grunge. Layne and jerry were a magical combo. I really don't think something like AIC will appear in the mainstream for a long time to come.

I'm surprised everybody mentions Dirt, and so few mention Facelift. The album sort of trails off for me toward the end, but it's still great. "Bleed the Freak," "Sea of Sorrow," and "We Die Young" are monstrous.

Facelift is the worst AIC full-length album, in my opinion...it's just...not as developed as anything else they would later do. It's still alright, though.
