I think Staley died of a Speedball OD (mixing Heroin + Cocaine) which is a really stupid thing to do.

John Belushi did the same thing.

I saw Alice right before they hit it big, at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield in June 1991. They were the opening act on "Clash Of The Titans" with, the the order they played, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. After Alice was done with their set, Layne Staley walked out among the audience during intermission waiting for Megadeth- I thought that was pretty cool.

alice in chains was a great band...they should be considered metal though they are technically grunge...but angry chair is a great song
