According to a posting on the official forum of the Alrosa Villa the Columbus, Ohio venue where PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was murdered in December 2004 one of the Alrosa security personnel wore a special "Alrosa Security Fuck U Ian" shirt at last night's (Jan. 11) ANTHRAX gig at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus as a way of protesting ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian's harsh words against Alrosa's security in the wake of Dimebag's tragic death.
In an interview with Marquee Magazine conducted last month, Ian was asked about the civil lawsuit that was filed against Alrosa by "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's brother/bandmate, DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul, and by DAMAGEPLAN tour manager Chris Paluska and drum tech John Brooks. "I absolutely think the club should be responsible for what happened," Ian said. "There is no excuse for a club not to have appropriate security. Many people have said that [Nathan] Gale [Dimebag's killer] was causing trouble earlier in the evening. If that club would have had appropriate security, things may have turned out different."
In a posting on the Alrosa forum, the member of the Alrosa security who attended last night's ANTHRAX show said about Ian, "He looked right at me for at least 1/2 minute and fully read [the] message [on my shirt]. I didnt throw [the shirt] at the stage I just held it up and he had a bit of a disgruntled look. I still got into his performance. You gotta expect rock stars like him to shit from their mouth occasionally .... well, with him it's frequently. I just had to take advantage of this situation. He was wrong in talking about the Alrosa. The Newport had very little security as do most venues. No pat-down/no metal detectors. You get my drift."
