Am I going in the right direction recording real drums?

Hey guys I just recorded this at a friends house for him. I used a Presonus Firepod.

I did some editing and panning, could I get someone to help me out to make this better? This is my second real drum recording.

Just listening on my MacBook Pro speakers here.. but it seems like there's no life to the snare at all. Needs more air on top. Are you using any dampening rings or moongels on the snare head? How does the snare sound in the overhead tracks?

I gated it pretty heavily I noticed that. I've tried messing with it though, I've gotten it to sound better. Thanks for the reply!
