Hey, I haven't heard either of these bands, but I want to check them out. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best albums are by each of these bands. Also, which album(s) did Lopez play in for Amon Amarth?

both are great bands, neither one really has a bad album.
but if you have to get one id go with:

amon amarth-versus the world or the avenger
akercocke-goat of mendes or rape of the bastard nazarene

the difference really being that Amon Amarth is horrible generic melodeath dribble with a viking curtain in front of it. and Akercocke is original, intense, dark, diverse and gets better with every listen. id recommend the 2 newest releases of Akercocke as a good starting point, the previous material being not quite as solid, and a little harder to get into.

I've never heard Akercocke, and judging from their interview on Uranium I don't really want to. Amon Amarth, however, is terrific. Crusher is an amazing album, but I think their best is their newest, Fate of Norns. I saw them live opening for Trivium and Children of Bodom and they absolutely slayed. The most fun I've ever had at a rock show was watching their set. They put off so much atmosphere, it makes you feel like you're at a Viking war rally before you raid England or something. Excellent, excellent show. I can't say enough good things about them!

Both incredible bands. the news of the AA dvd coming in April gave me a hard-on.

Versus the World or fate Of Norns probably for AA

Words that go unspoken, deeds that go undone for akercocke....easier to get into than the earlier stuff for sure.

I like Akercocke; love Amon Amarth. As for the more palatable one to start with for the former, I'd suggest Choronzon and for Amon Amarth, I'm with most of you - Versus the World.

Well, Akercocke are okay but far from great. They boast some novelty value for a while. I recall thinking that they were quite interesting for a while before this proved not to be the case. I haven't listened for about 2 years now.

Amon Amarth - very good. Try Once Sent From The Golden Hall or Fate of Norns. If you want to download a song maybe The Beheading of a King?

This is at least the third thread about Akercocke on this board.
Yes, I noticed that. Also on all of them posts no one can spell the bands name. No offence to people that can't spell it, I just noticed it.

Amon Amarth = Great

I met Pete from Akercocke on Sunday when I went to see Cathedral, in Manchester. I recommend their new album, Words that Go Unspoken, Deeds that Go Undone. It comes with very funny DVD.
