Among the Living...

FOLLOW ME OR DIE!

Anthrax is evidence that you don't need talent to make songs that kick you in the balls :kickass:

Respect the badge!

To me, this band never put out a really bad album. I even like Volume 8, so what.

If I had to trash one, it'd probably be 'State Of Euphoria', but even that one has some killer tunes.

I've lost a lot of respect for $cott and Charlie throughout the years, but they remain to be one of my favourite bands.

No talent? Scott is like the blueprint of a metal rhythm guitarist and Charlie is a monster behind the kit.

Don't get me wrong, I like Anthrax, but compared to metal even then, their songs were super simple. Literally a hair away from a punk rock band of the time. Then again, the definition of "Talent" can be argued, so nevermind :goggly:

I dunno, some of the songs and riffs on "Fistful of Metal" and "Spreading the Disease" were decently challenging/interesting; haven't heard any other of their albums, but I always dug those two!

Well, I always judge musical talent on two levels: songwriting ability and technical ability, with the first category being vastly more important.

Ian wrote some songs with down-picking sections that would even give Hetfield a run for his money. And Benante played a huge role in making blast beats fashionable. Spitz and Bello were more than adequate for their positions too, IMHO.

So, I'll just disagree. ;)

Belladonna, I'll give you that.

But, come on! Some songs were just SUPER shat out.

Not a fair example as it's only a cover. ;)

Antisocial is "only" a cover too, but it requires some serious down-picking stamina to get through the song.

Indeed. A few months ago there was a thread about Doom (the game) here that made me play it again. I used Among The Living as soundtrack for the entire playthrough and had an awesome time. The main riff of the song Among The Living sets me on an instant headbanging mood.

You know what? When I was 14 yo (1990) everybody wanted to play like Malsteen, Vai or Satriani... me NOT, I wanted to play like Scott. Those palm mutes and downpickings were the heaviest shit! Scott is pure energy.

That is the reason why I'm a better rythm guitarist that soloist.
I love checking amps and doing sound checks on stage with Antisocial riff.

ANTHRAX RULES!

Anyone wanna buy my copy of this album?
I like two songs off it, but I'll admit I haven't heard this album in since 2007. I honestly really tried to love it, but I couldn't really get into it even after about 30 listens :(
Just doesn't do it for me like Testament and Megadeth do.

Anthrax is NY thrash dude, WAY more punk/hardcore influence going on there then in the SF Bay scene!

Yeah I gotta admit the SF Bay Area scene was so much cooler and more interesting to me.
The NY scene was cool, and yeah it had some attitude, but it seemed kinda limited, whereas the SF scene was all about progressing forward, experimenting with new shit (time signatures, rhythms, compositions) and ultimately I feel it surely had a bigger influence on modern metal than than the east coast/NY scene did.
I find it so easy to get over the east coast stuff, whereas the complexities you hear in Megadeth, Testament etc, just keep me coming back for more

Persistence of Time is one of the best thrash metal albuns ever and Joey Belladonna was an awesome singer in that time. For me, the best singer that a thrash metal band could have.

And for the one who said that´s no need talent. Sorry dude but I dont know shit. They have some skilful stuff.
