I'll be there but I heard Leaves Eyes dropped off the tour. Not sure if there is a replacement for them or not. Looking forward VERY MUCH to seeing Virgin Black BIG TIME!

Looks like Leaves Eyes dropped off. Seeing the other three names alone made me realize it'd be hypocritical to skip the gig due to a decade+ of blatant fanboyishness. So Dan call me when you get out there. I've got a housewarming gift for you and there's no chance in hell they'l let me bring that shit inside.

Thought maybe we should compile a list of things to do in case any of us get stuck at a venue Amorphis is playing...
1) Inform anyone headbanging that this is Finnish Folk Metal and the proper reaction is Finnish Folk Dancing (illustration optional depending on how badly you want to get laid.)
2) Try to explain how to control a touch screen based videogame through gesture and pantomime.
3) Work on your Doom Dance (speaking of which Dan if my hair gets much poofier, I'm getting a monk's robe and joining Shroud full time).

Well, I thought virgin black was excellent overall. Rowan seemed pretty cool, if no a little standoffish somewhat but was pleasant enough when talking to him. Sam is sooooooo skinny compared to the live shots off their website...are they feeding her or what?
Samael were energetic as always, wasn't sure if it was the same singer/guitarist due to dyed blonde hair pulled back. His bro with the shaved head was different than last time I saw them. Was kinda funny watching him jumping up/down behind the rack they had for all his stuff. Interesting to see he had some sort of MPC/Drumpad box in the rack along with his Korg (didn't catch what model). Still was good to see them as always.
Amorphis was pretty good considering I haven't heard anything of them since around Elegy/Tuonella period. New singer did pretty good with the growls and overall good job by him. Rest of the band were kicking it I thought as well. I'll see them again if they come around next year. Hopefully with at least a similar lineup.
Overall good show. Hypersolid opened up for it and were good. Cool to see bass player using a 6 string bass. Haven't see anyone doing that in ages. At least not at metal shows, mostly 4 or a 5 string (necrophagist).
Great to see metal george,kiki, dan, kleo, laurel at the show among a few other metal heads I always see there.
Not sure what show next. I'd love to go see Amon Amarth w/Belphegor coming up soon (couple/three weeks tops on a saturday night at palladium).

Five years back, Xy from Samael had a full blown rig with keys, pads, cymbals, and god knows what else. If you thought watching him bounce around this time was interesting... it had nothing on that one. I very seriously doubt all his shit would've fit up there.
The dude really got into his keys post-Ceremony. The Rebellion EP had mutiple entirely synthesized musical tracks. He made an instrumental keyboard-based version of Passage. Then him and his brother opted to drop the guitars and start an entirely electronic project called Era One. Contractual hooplah caused them to hand it over to Century Media with another purely instrumental electronic album called A Lesson In Magic that the label packaged together.

I was hoping for a larger turnout considering Amorphis was on there as well as Samael....hopefully VB will come back through next year on a better tour.
Xy has an interesting setup now that he doesn't play drums exclusively (for some time now...). And yes, it was different than his previous rigs he's had at the palladium. And definitely a big change since Ceremony.

I wasn't that surprised by the horrid draw. Amorphis has toured enough here for people to realize that not only is Pasi gone but his replacement is the only one really into it. Sure they were a fantastic Death Metal band but they've been a fair to middling Prog act for a good decade now.
And Samael with the right promotion, their new sound could feasibly do well on the radio. However all they have behind 'em on these shores is their legacy. I mean the whoring is to the point where non-fanatical people were probably shocked to see the name on the bill.
Plus the recession isn't as bad as it's going to get but hearing about impending economic collapse has an effect on people. They're a good deal more likely to ask "is it worth it to pay $20.00 to see an obscure band with two who lost me 10 years back considering a bottle of swill costs as much as a six pack of Sam Adam's Oktoberfest?" My guess is we'll be back to seeing noone outside of Amon Amarth and Opeth come over some point next year.
