Hey guys, I gave it a shot with Amplitube 3. Trying to get that swedish death tone with the HM-2 and JCM 800 crunch models. I have the HM-2 cranked on every knob and turned down the gain of the JCM800 model to just about 0.5.

PRE MODEL: British Tube Lead 1
EQ MODEL: Metal Lead V (match off)
AMP MODEL: 50W EL34 (match on)

The prob with A3 is that there are points with to high levels where it stops to sound good and drifts into the ugly. This is what you've got here. Try turning down the output of the HM2. You'll probably get a much better tone. If that doesn't help check other points where to much level destroys the tone (input to high?).

Will do, Shogger. Thanks. Its my first time trying out this tone by the way but I think I'm kinda in the right track. Apart from the high levels theres just so many possibilities with Amplitube 3. I found out that the combination of a closed 2x12 cab and 50watt EL4 does it closer than a 4x12 with 100watts.
If any of you guys tried out some better combination please do post :) with presets or anything. I'm going to go back and tweak it further now.

Aright, backed down the distortion and level on the HM-2 now.. module input and output also backed down a couple of notches. EQ-ing everything again and raised some high-mids. Now it sounds a more like chainsaw than a bass with ridicously amount of distortion LOL.

are you aiming for a humorous approach or a serious? many swedish bands achieved a good sound with that combination (hm-2/amp), some copied and sound horrific and some made a kinda humorous approach (think of bloodbath: rtc). your sound appears to be on the latter

I'm aiming for a serious sound approach like Dismember or maybe Germany's Fleshcrawl. I want it to be a little bit more modern like Fleshcrawl's though, somewhere in between these bands actually. Still experimenting and such.
One question, does it always have to be a Marshall amp? if so how do you dime the gain on it or its something like a 50-50 combination from the HM-2 and amp?

you already saw that video right? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-1vcuKcXeI&feature=PlayList&p=2BA6B286DD10659B&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=2[/ame]
I think the problem is, that the modeled hm-2 is somewhat over the top. I don't think you have to use a marshall, but the classic stuff is with jcm's

Yeah, I've seen this vid and a couple of others for a while ago. I notice that they usually turn every knob on the HM-2 to max but on the Amplitube 3maybe its different, it gets really huge but theres also a hell load of noise added and I had to turn the noise gate on at max + quickest release. After that I found out I had to back down the distortion and level on HM-2 to about 11 o'clock and it sounded better. I remember reading somewhere its a combination of JCM800 (50watts) and a closed back 2x12 cab. I'm liking the sound more on a 4x12. I have a condenser mic and md421 on the cab, maybe its the condenser mic?

Thats pretty good actually. You've retained that middy-harsh grinding tone. I do agree with you and have tried alot of times already its either you get this sort of tone like in your clip which isn't bad or anything or you'd get too much of everything. If I dialed something harder than this with the highs and bottom added.. it just gets so too extreme and loose clarity and becomes a damn bass saw, with a palm mute it sends the track into extreme clipping

I see you're using Engl stuff, would be really interesting to hear what it would sound like having a real HM-2 in front of that beast. I don't have a tube amp but I'd love to try it out for once because I'm saving up for a head, maybe a savage 120 or powerball II. A rather tough decision which I'm going through.

my clip is just lacking low end, dunno if that'S caused by the tuning, though
EDIT: updated: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/314510/dismember3.mp3

Its probably the tuning, I had my guitar at B tuning but I had to back down the bass on the HM-2 and the marshall too, it was too much.
But I think ur clip sounds better now, sits better in the mix, those fizzies are gone by a margin.
Are you also using Britsh Tube Lead 1 for pre model? I have Metal V Lead for the EQ MODEL and got 50watt EL34 for amp model.

Try my preset settings

Savage does sound better in a mix because of its brutal midrange but can it also do some deep grinding fiery tone? I'm digging what Dying Fetus got out of it on their new album though.

This is one of the videos I don't seriously :heh:

Whats the difference with the Boss HM-2 and the Metal Zone? I use that and I'm able to get decent death metal sounds when I mix it with amp sims :D
