Here's a small clip I made. It's a riff looping 5 times with 5 different ampsims. I tweaked them to my liking and tried to match the levels. Can you guess what sims it is, and which do you like the most?

Chain: LTDMH400 w/emg81 tuned i B standard -> Presonus firepod -> Nebula2 Poidaobi's englv30 impulse. 2 tracks, one full left, one full right. Minor EQ at 400hz and 5000hz.

Tja!

I liked 3,4 and 5 the most. I would use 5 when I need darker type of distortion, sort of like Sikth's Death of a Dead Day album, and 3 or 4 for something more modern type of distortion. 1 and 2 didn't appeal to me very much. Now.. I'm not sure how much you have tweaked these and I'm not sure whether 1 and 2 is capable of a sound like 3 and 4 so it's kinda hard to say I don't like those particular amp sims... after all, they might just be able to achieve more modern type of tones, who knows. But still, I am interested in what you have used for this shootout! If you don't want to reveal it just yet, could you atleast PM me since this thread seems to be slow? I wanna know the results =)

#1 was ok, #2 sounded a bit weaker at first compared to #1, but i think isolated i'd prefer this one, #3 is a little bit fizzy, #4 and #5 were not so good
#1 and #2 are the best, but of course it always depends on the context

I should redo this in a mix with drums and bass, and the tones are super middy, which they wouldn't have been in a mix. And redo this with ALL ampsims I could get my hands on. And a few different impulses. Some day. When I'm bored. Which is almost always. So look out for the super-ultra-ampsim-comparsion-from-hell in the near future.

Help me out with a list:
Amplitube
Guitar rig
Revalver (which I don't have)
Nick Crow's all sims
SoloC
Dirthead
AcmeDig

I know a couple other sims, free ones, but I don't think it would be worth it to try with those since they are not very good at all as far as I remember. There is one called TubeBaby or something, and then there is also the JCM900 from SimulAnalog or whatever they call themselves. The JCM900 is pretty good though, but not really for tight metal stuff.

I'll let you know if I find something else worthy of trying.

With the proper boost you can get almost anything to sound metal :)
I'll show that with the plexi sim in guitar rig in the shootout.
Never heard of TubeBaby. I'll look into that!

I like your attitude! Then you should definately try the JCM900 too for the shootout :)

If you can't find TubeBaby, I might have it somewhere around.

There is also Juicy77 but I don't think you can turn off the internal cab emulation so it's kinda sucky in that aspect. I recall something like AradazAmp too, but not sure how good they are. Aradaz has made quite a few ampsims so you could check them out if you want.
