Here's something I think everyone should know:
According to a recent interview, Tim "Ripper" Owens, current lead singer of Judas Priest, said that the only reason Rob Halford has returned to metal is for a "quick cash-grab." He (Ripper) said that this is because of the failure of Two and Fight to gain any sort of satisfiable success. Rob Halford, gentleman that he is, replied that it was not a cash-grab, but a step necessary to take as an artist. Tensions had been building ever since Rob "came out" in 1997and Ripper joined JP. Rob did end his response by saying, "Fuck you, Tim!"
This isn't exactly what a press release stated or anything but it was in the latest issue of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. Is this old news? I'd imagine the metal world abuzz with this news. I would like for you all to give me some opinions on this, please! I guess we've all expected this for some time, but now that it's here, who is wrong and who is right?
Here's my take: 1. The entire reason for Tim's current profession (basically singing period) is because of Rob's work over the last 30 years...Rob says as much in his response, too.
2. To my ears, Tim is better off doing things like Winter's Bane. Anyone ever heard this? Great stuff! Anyways, I guess it was a dream of Ripper's, but he's certainly not breaking new ground. It's mostly JP's fault for bringing him into this situation...what a mess they've created! And yes, it could've been avoided!
3. Rob will forever be the better man for this. We all know he's not sadistic like Tim appears to be. To me, at least, Rob is my hero. He's brave, he's talented, and he's a fucking cool dude.
4. What's wrong with Two or Fight? First of all, Fight kicked major ass! Second, I liked Two: Voyeurs. I guess if people didn't like it "they don't respect Rob Halford as an artist or a musician," but hey, it's the truth; Rob Halford is the ONE and ONLY (metal) god!
