Hi, Andy!
Just wondered what mics you use/recomend for overheads?

A cheaper alternative is the Audio Technica 4050, which I often prefer to the 414. I use Coles mics mostly now, but the at4050 is great. the 4047 is cool too, even better sounding, but its cardioid only. And the cheaper 4033 is alright, but not as good as the 4050. The 451 is a good choice, but you could also try a pair of 57s!

...are you saying you like to record with mics in omni-mode or something?!

I think i'd like to go for some cigar-mics as they sound a little more crispy.
Fredrick Nordstroem (Dimmu Borgir, Soilwork, In Flames) told me he prefered Shure KSM141 in paralell XY, but I somehow find them to sound a bit harse and with less sustain...

I was also recomended Neumann KM184 by some folks...but I've heard they are really trebly wich could be cool as long as they don't sound too thin or "hissy".

Have anyone here tried them, perhaps know of some records that where done with them (KM184) on the OH's?

I think the 184's sound great. I haven't noticed any weirdness in the frequency response. They have excellent detail for the price and it's easy to find matched sets
