ANGRA announces first show of the new lineup

Interesting. Do you really think an album like Aurora Consurgens or Aqua is a better release (both musically and vocally) than, say, classics like Holy Land and Angels Cry? That's a really bold statement, and while again, it is all about personal taste, I find it absurdly unlikely that anyone would make that choice.

Sorry man, but that's not a fair comparison. You're taking the least regarded Edu albums against the best regarded Matos albums. Compare Aurora Consurgens to Fireworks. Or Rebirth and Temple of Shadows to Angels Cry and Holy Land. Then you have a proper argument.

Personally, I'll take Rebirth over Angels Cry, but Holy Land over Temple of Shadows. And one day people will realize how progressive and underrated Aqua really is.

Fair enough. At least we can agree with the fact that those 4 are Angra's strongest releases, and all of them have achieved the strongest sales in the band's career. If I'm not wrong, Rebirth may have been the one with the best numbers, but that was because of the whole buzz with the band's return. I still defend Holy Land as their magnum opus, with Temple of Shadows, Angels Cry and Rebirth all next.

so glad someone else loves Holy Land. That is my favorite disc from them as well.

No, I shouldn't. The whole point was to show songs that were supposedly written for Edu, thus showing that he couldn't handle even his "own" Angra songs...

Gotcha. I wasn't sure if you were just a naysayer without really knowing about his career or not. :)

I understand that. I personally still don't understand the fanaticism towards Arjen Lucassen and Ayreon. But I know how important of a role he's played in the progressive metal scene, having his releases become a staple of the genre. They still put me to sleep as well, but you gotta give him credit, just as Andre deserves his.

Edu blew his voice because Angra basically forced him to sing stuff out of his register. It got to the point that live performances with Edu were just unbearable to watch. Nothing compared to the Edu we got in 2002 at ProgPower III. I'll show you three videos and then you can see how he went downhill... (which is a shame, as I love the guy!)

Yeah, that Rock in Rio clip is very saddening. I knew he blew his voice out, and how it happened, but I'd never watched that clip. I feel pretty bad for him.

Back to the point at hand, I'm totally ok being a minority opinion holder. Aurora Consurgens is one of my favorite Angra albums. And I love AAL and Ayreon very much so.

I guess we'll just have to agree to play total opposites on this issue.

I will say, though, that I think that Angra helped make their singers far more than the other way around. Their music is just extremely good.

Today Angra announced the singer at the 70,000 Tons cruise and perhaps a few other shows [;)] will actually be a guest singer, and not the definitive replacement for Edu Falaschi.

It was rumored that he was approached by the band before Edu joined... I'm not sure whether or not that's true...

However, I'd love to see that!!!
