So Angra is hitting the studio to record their long-awaited new record. The band has recently posted a video on Youtube of the pre-production. Although they're obviously speaking in Portuguese, you can hear a few sections of the new songs. Worth checking out!

Do I need to say I can't wait?

Last time I heard, they were done. When did they get back togeher? They SLAYED at PP a few years back.

Chris

They were having management/legal issues a couple years ago, and until the band had them all solved, they weren't an operating band. Now that the problems are solved, and they replaced two members (keyboardist Fabio Laguna and drummer Aquiles Priester are out - Ricardo Confessori the original drummer is back), they've been playing concerts for half a year again.

Angra toured with Sepultura and Mindflow down in Brazil and now they're working on their new record, to be released in the middle of 2010. Word in the street is that the new music is absolutely mindblowing ;)

I didn't hear that they released Fabio. Was that around the same time they got rid of Aquiles? Fabio seemed like a quiet guy but when I talked to him on a couple of occasions he was very nice.

Have you listened to his Freakeys? Any thoughts if you have?

Fabio is a really nice guy. Nobody really heard anything about Fabio leaving. I think it has to do with the fact that he was never an "official" member of the band, although he had been doing keys for them for a while. He is a full time member of Aquiles' other band, Hangar now (which by the way is growing a lot and their music is very good).

Freakeys... I have the album. Honestly, the musicianship on it is great, as anyone would expect. Songwriting is good too, but at one point it makes me really tired. I guess it becomes too much of a Liquid Tension Experiment type of thing (sometimes better actually). However, my patience for those types of instrumental projects has been long gone.

AngraRULES - Thanks for the reply. I'm normally not a fan of instrumental CDs, which is why I never got this, but it's still on my list to get eventually. If anything I'm curious to how it sounds. I also never listened to Hanger. They are another band on my CD want list.

Anytime.

If you wanna check out Hangar, I suggest starting by "Reason of Your Conviction." The album is a freaking amazing, very underrated prog metal release.

Any idea what the circumstances were with why Aquiles left? That guy is an AMAZING drummer! Case in point:

I have had this DVD for a few years now and ....just wow!

AngraRules - Thanks again. I like what I hear. I'm going to have to move them higher on my list.

I'm sure someone else will have more details, but there were some rumors going around that there were some 'tension' between him and Rafael that they couldn't work out.

But Yes, he is a fantastic drummer.

Aquiles is fantastic, for sure. He's one of the top drummers in the world without a doubt.

The reason why he left the band had to do with not getting along with some of the other bandmates, if I'm not wrong. I remember there was a lot of interviews going back and forth between him and Rafael Bittencourt, in which they weren't saying the nicest things about each other. Aquiles is actually working on his biography, and some portions of it are on his website. According to him, there was even a fistfight between him and somebody else in the band, which has never been denied amongst the Angra guys. I'm going to see if I can do some research and post some of those interviews here.

I'll get back to you on that.
