Annihilator's st album getting a royal pasting

I dunno.
Can't say I disagree to much, from the few songs I have heard recently from ANNIHILATOR.

Let's be honest. EARACHE is one of the labels at the forefront of the new school thrash movement.
I am sure the intended target audience for signing this band are not old school fans, but rather younger fans of new school thrash, ala Muni Waste, Warbringer, Bonded By Blood, etc.

It is a shame that a major underground label would release something like this, but ignore bands like Trouble, Manilla Road, Omen, etc.
Oh well.

yeah this is BS. Being someone who has reviewed numerous albums in the past, there's a right way and a wrong way to go about panning an album. After reading this, it's pretty damn obvious this guy just has a hard on for this band, and he will do anything in his power to mock Annihilator. If he actually utilized constructive criticism rather than going after them for the sake of going after them it would be one thing. Yeah, he describes the music a little bit, but from the outset you already know he had no intention from the moment he hit play of liking this album. As a reviewer, you always should go into an album with an open mind, despite previous feelings about a band or artist. This guy obviously did not.

This guy does get a bit ridiculous at times, but it wasn't nearly as over-the-top as the comments here suggested...

I understand your complaint, but let's be frank doom has never been one of the more popular genres of metal. It's unfortunate because those bands are great, but it just will never happen.

I agree that is over the top. But let's face it... it's going to take reviews like this to get Jeff to finally change vocalists.

My favorite has always been SET THE WORLD ON FIRE although ALICE IN HELL is a freakin classic as well!!!!

Not really big on the current vocalist.

Something as stupid as this review isn't worth getting my blood pressure up. With that said Annihilator are still in my top 5 bands. Metal was a great release in my opinion. Now for my review of metalcrypts opinion and review. I think his opinion is ridicules. to even imply that "Metal" was not as good as Metallicas Load, Re Load, ST. Anger give me a break. This dude is deaf.

Aw... poor little guy. Someone's a little upset about something. The new Annihilator actually ranks among some of their best work for me, and that is coming from someone who had extremely high expectations for this album. The playing on it is intense as hell, some of the best that Waters has ever done, in fact. Two things in this thread that I have read that I laughed at though are as followed:

I agree that is over the top. But let's face it... it's going to take reviews like this to get Jeff to finally change vocalists.

Actually, the majority of people who still consider themselves Annihilator fans, comprised of opinions that I have read online at various places, as well as their forums, seem to have quite the opposite consensus. Either they really like Dave and have since the beginning, or didn't really like him at first but he was much like an acquired taste for them and they enjoy him now. His presence in the band cannot be denied, this being his 4th album and all, and he is now the longest running singer in Annihilator history. He's so respected by Jeff that Jeff actually allowed him to write a couple of songs on the new record.

I dunno.

Jasonic, sometimes I really agree with you, and then sometimes I think your armchair quarterbacking is done simply so you can read your own words on the screen. You say this above statement but I can almost guarantee you that you haven't heard a single song off of this album and are basing this statement on the fact that A.) Annihilator are not old school enough for you, B.) If they are old school enough for you, you were listening to them long before anyone else here, back when they were still UBER underground, and that somehow makes you cooler than everyone else that came along later, or C.) You're just really, really, upset because Annihilator still continues to put out mostly quality to great releases that are still relevant in the metal world, while the bands you just mentioned are now mostly ignored for any new releases, if they even still put any out (I know the past release or two from Trouble has been shit all over by most people I have read reviews or opinions from).

Everyone here is certainly entitled to their opinion, and I'm the last person who would sit here and tell anyone that their opinion is wrong (Odin knows we get enough of that), but if you are going to have an opinion, at least base it on some sort of relevant fact, and not just jealous accusations.

@ Milton: I was at a benefit/memorial show yesterday for Earl Root and then went down to the radio show and had a tribute night there for him and Dio, hence why I didn't see this until now, haha.

I definitely still consider myself an Annihilator fan. I still love the band. I buy everything they put out. I'll just say that Dave is the weak link for me. I do wish they would get another singer. I understand that sometimes the best person for the job does not necessarily fit personality-wise.

Well, look at it this way.

Joe Comeau - He and Jeff have NOTHING good to say about each other from what I have been able to tell, Joe did not like any of the tongue in cheek stuff that Annihilator does, and in fact , on the hidden track Chicken And Corn that Jeff wrote for his kids, on Carnival Diablos, Joe wanted no part of it, because it was too "silly".

Randy Rampage - BIG drinking and drug problem, definitely no a good thing since Jeff is completely clean now.

Aaron Randall - Not really sure what he is doing now, I don't think he is doing music anymore, but I would love to be proven wrong, I always liked his voice.

Coburn Pharr - He is a ************** engineer, haha, not really doing music anymore.

John Bates - He and Jeff are still friends, but he isn't doing metal anymore, he is doing more Rockabilly type stuff now with his band Big John Bates and The Voodoo Dolls.

He really has no option except for keeping Dave unless he wants to have someone completely different, but why? Plenty, if not the majority of people, who are still Annihilator fans, have accepted Dave and like Dave. The two songs that he wrote on the new album, Coward (pretty good) and Death In Your Eyes (amazing song, actually one of my favorite all time Annihilator tracks), are really good.

Like DrMetal said Brent... "I understand that sometimes the best person for the job does not necessarily fit personality-wise." Pretty much covers what you followed his comment with.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Please stop it! You're killing me!!!!!

Re-read my post.
Do you think EARACHE would even spit in Annihilator's direction if it wasn't for the fact that their flagship artists are all part of the current thrash resurgence?

If Annihilator are SO relevant to metal today, how come they can't even pay their way to get on a tour?

You are a fan. That's great. I get it.

Yes, I am a HUGE Trouble fan.
Though you make it seem like I had made statements that they release amazing earth shattering material. The last Trouble album I would rate about a 7/10. Someone who is only a casual fan, or only a fan of their "classic" albums would probably give it a 4/10.

As for Annihilator, I couldn't care less one way or another. They were mediocre at best back in the day, and even less so to me these days.

I'd like to know where you got this info from? I suppose that opening for Trivium on one tour, opening for Judas Priest on another, and the list goes on (within the last 3-4 years that is) would somehow constitute that they can't buy their way onto a tour. I would be more than willing to bet that they had to pay a pretty penny to get on both of those tours, and don't say that Earache did it because of the new resurgence of thrash, because this was before they were on Earache.

Other than their small base of fans, Annihilator has had no major influence on metal. The only people who say Annihilator are influences are bands on the same label, or confused pigeons. That doesn't mean that one can't enjoy their music greatly.
