Some may remember the thread I started a couple of years ago about the Civil War band I recorded and mixed, and once again my services have been employed, this time by a different band (both were because of my Dad's involvement, this time as musical director/conductor, but maybe I'll inadvertently make a name for myself in this esoteric sector of AE'ing  ).

Anyway, pretty proud of this one, and it was a lot of fun to mix:

Now for infos: we recorded it in the sorta coffee-hour hall at the church my parents go to (it's non-denominational, and more of a community thing that happens to involve occasional mentions of Jeebus, just so no one thinks my parents are bible-humpers :D) - not the most ideal space, but I thought it sounded surprisingly good, and anyway, out of the 10 mics used, 8 were close mics (which one of the band members brought up from the Uni where he teaches, and were a mix of 57's, a KSM141, AT4041's, and an AKG C414 XLII in Cardioid mode) and then only 2 stereo mics in a spaced-pair Omni setup (AKG C414 TLII's, which we rented).

As for the recording end, I used my Onyx 400F as the interface (and the preamps for the 4 least important mics), and then rented a John Hardy 990 4-channel preamp and a GML 2-channel, the latter of which went into a Sonifex Redbox ADDA (also rented) going into the SPDIF input on my Onyx (and the band dude brought up the HS50's as well).

So that's that - hope you dig it!

first of all: GREAT WORK! i can only assume what kind of "esoteric" :-) challenge this must be. (although i also admit, for a german, the first few seconds may feel like watching a "3rd reich wochenschau" :ill: ..which nevertheless IS a great goal in our digital age, BTW)

but this leds me to a question i would have:
mind telling me why it's called a "Civil War" band? ( i mean this "constellation" must have been used for other purposes too?...or is it really that simple?)

Thanks guys! And 26, yeah, I guess the proper description would be "Military-style brass band from the era of the American Civil War" (AKA just "The Civil War" to anyone Stateside :D), as they take on the role of the 47th Pennsylvania Regimental band (though not the individual identities of the members, fortunately, that would be a bit weird haha), playing period-correct instruments and going to historical battle reenactments and such
