Another One of my Band Vs. Band Threads

My vote: too close to call.

Aerosmith: Positive - has been able to pretty much stay together for 30 years, "Toys In The Attic," underrated "Done With Mirrors". Negative - sappy ballads in recent years, "Honkin' On Bobo", "Rock In A Hard Place".

Van Halen: Positive - pretty solid output for most of their career, "1984," underrated "Fair Warning". Negative - "Van Halen III", Eddie about as stable as a Ford Pinto, band can't stay together.

Theory: Aerosmith and Rolling Stones are the same band. Old rock band, big lipped-singer, butt-ugly guitarist thats had a few too many drinks over the years, should have retired at least 10 years ago...

As for Aerosmith vs. VH, both have done anything remotely interesting in the past 20 years, but prior to 1985 were both very influential on the rock and metal scene. DLR is the man, so my vote goes to VH

ditto , i love old aerosmith (kings and queens and, seasons of wither are killer tunes) but, i can't get into the 90's and newer stuff. Roth is the commander and chief of onstage banter.

I like OLD Aerosmith, pre-1980s. But compared to VH? No way. Roth-era VH got me into rock. If it hadn't been for 1984, then VH, Fair Warning, etc....I shudder at the thought. I even like 5150--great record, even now, despite very 80s over-production. 20 years ago VH fucking smoked. Edward has fallen to the bottom of a bottle somewhere. Very sad.

Van Halen with David Lee Roth.
As for Aerosmith, I like them very much as well, but sometimes I find them quite cheesy.

Van Halen up til mid 80's. I even like 5105 with Sam but thats about it with him. David Lee Roth is a ROCK GOD, he bleeds rock, he is the man!!!.

Aerosmith are one solid band but like someone else said too many 'sappy ballads'

Van Halen - I like both singers.
you're a rare breed dude. for most people there is line drawn in the sand over the 2 singers. i don't know why maybe people are pissed over break up. i did like the f.u.c.k. album. i grew up going to see the roth era van halen. it was my second concert (for women and children first) and it was by far the funnest show i ever attended. so i guess for me it's personal.

I don't disagree there - I actually happen to like both Dave and Sammy as well. I thought 5150 was a transition album that was too radio-friendly, but OU812 had some pretty decent stuff. It's been a while since I dug For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge out - maybe it's time to dust that off again.

I'm also probably one of a handful of people who liked Aerosmith's Done With Mirrors - "Reason A Dog" and "My Fist Your Face" are two killer tracks!

Aerosmith used to be cool. Aerosmith No. 1(1973)is a great album. Toys in the Attic(74)even greater. Rocks(75)as great. Van Halen have made a couple of okay records, but nothing close to the greatest Aerosmith
