Anthrax

My fave is "Spreading The Disease", but technically IMO their best is "State Of Euphoria".

ATL, then STD.

But I'm biased. As a teen, ATL was a HUGE album for me, right up there with Master of Puppets.

I didn't think it quite reached the brilliance of Master of Puppets, but they came out close to each other, give or take, and I remember thinking the future of metal was pretty bright at that point....and I really did love Among the Living. The previous albums were okay too. After that, I think Anthrax pretty much fell into constant mediocrity though. They are a band, in my view, who never lived up to their promise. Just a huge string of mediocre albums that appealed to me in no way. If you could go back in time to ATL, you'd think, "man, I expect big things for this band....." just didn't happen musically, and because of that, their success was always middle of the road as well.

Yeah, big letdown after ATL, IMO.

Never came close to recapturing the magic, as it were.

And don't even talk to me about Persistence of Time. Tight, proficient thrash with nary an interesting feature, melodically, lyrically, anywhere.
