Hallo !

My name is Lieze Neven and i write for Stampmedia: A belgian pressagency made by and for yousters. I'm busy writing an article about Metal and Antifa. Don't be scared, I also write for the dutch E-zine Zware Metalen so I know Antifa does some bad things to our beloved music genre.
What do YOU think about the whola Antifa and Metal topic and do you know bands who had problems with Antifa although they aren't NSBM or fascist?

Thank you!

Lieze Neven

Antifa tried to cancel a Moonsorrow/Týr show, because they accused the bands from being nazis, anti-semitistic or something. The bands used some ancient runes (common for pagan metal) which nazis also apparently used.

Antifa sucks, it seems they WANT to see nazism everywhere, and seem to think every black metal band is anti-semitistic.

They're a bunch of assholes. I think there was an incident where they actually physically attacked the members of Kroda simply because of their opinions. I've heard of incidents where they've gotten shows canceled by actually threatening to use physical force against the people involved. There was a little metal shop somewhere in Berlin, Germany that had to shut down because antifa people were vandalizing it and it became too expensive to deal with.

One band that had trouble with antifa who I know definitely aren't racists or fascists is Moonsorrow. I guess it had something to do with people thinking there was an SS rune in their logo.

Yeah, that's pretty funny since they are posing as the "good guys fighting evil".

Oh, didn't know they get violent. So they're world peace militants.

I know Negura Bunget risked having some shows in France or Spain cancelled a few years ago, after some people filed some petitions to the police, accusing them of Nazism and ultranationalist ideas... which is quite ridiculous since the band mainly sings about nature or spirituality/mythology.

I think Churchill once said that the fascists of the future will call themselves antifascists.

Basically, if some Skrewdriver type band get cancelled, I don't give a shit, if a band whose fanbase is largely standard metal heads then I'm annoyed.

In some instances bands will sing about killing jews or whatever and tbh if the lyrics are that blatant I don't see that the band has anything to whine about when they are attacked. Some fucktarded teenager will be walking backwards and forwards in his room with that shit on full blast planning on blowing up the local synagogue, so naturally people who are against that want to attack the band.

As for the association with romanticism and mythology with Nazis, well blurgh whatever, if someone paints a representational painting of some druids doing their stuff on the hills of northern Europe it doesn't mean they're a national socialist, so a band can have stuff like that on the album cover and in the lyrics without it meaning a great deal politically.

That's in effect an argument for anarchy. No-one is entitled to restrain me from exercising my beliefs, so if I believe that I am superior to everyone else then I'm entitled to disregard the rights of lesser beings (to the point of inflicting violence).

Freedom of speech/belief etc is fine until it gets to the point where the exercise of it impinges even more substantially on other people's freedoms. Ie black peoples' right to exist without abuse trumps KKK's right to preach hatred. Someone's freedom has to be sacrificed. That's liberal democracy.

No.

Freedom of speech should never be restricted outside of when it directly puts people in danger.

Hate speech should not be restricted unless it directly leads to violence. Often times it does not and therefore should not be limited.

Well that's kind of awkward though. Some people are touchy and kind of intolerant so if you do that those people will end up have more power than other groups through coercion.

I'll give an example. If some guy on TV said WHITE PEOPLE ARE BASTARDS LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT THEY'VE DONE!!!!!!1

Nothing would happen

If some guy on TV said CHINESE PEOPLE ARE BASTARDS LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT THEY'VE DONE!!!!!!1

not much would happen

If some guy on TV said TURKS PEOPLE ARE BASTARDS LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT THEY'VE DONE!!!!!!1

Some Armenians living in Turkey would probably get shot and if the person saying it was a Turk they would be liable for a jail sentence in Turkey.

If some guy on TV said BlACK PEOPLE ARE BASTARDS LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT THEY'VE DONE!!!!!!1

there would possibly be some rioting in America and the police would ignore white people getting attacked so as not to fuel further anger against 'the system'.

If some guy on TV said MUSLIM PEOPLE ARE BASTARDS LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT THEY'VE DONE!!!!!!1

The person who said it would get killed and there would be protests with people holding signs saying behead those who insult Islam.

Unless it is possible to prove those words were said with the specific intent of causing the riots, no censorship by government means should happen. Obviously for the sake of image reasons I really doubt any major networks would air such footage and would do their best to quell any unrest it causes amongst their viewers.
