Any NILE fans (I kinda doubt it, but...)

Mantic Ritual, however, is a big pile of suck.

GTFO

I've never seen Nile live but I've always heard that they're really boring. These responses about their live shows are surprising me. I'll be checking them out on the Krisiun tour though, and I'm pretty excited to finally see them, since last time they were in town I left early to go across the street to watch Pelican.

I'm torn because Nile is awesome and I wanna be like "raaahh can't believe you left" but at the same time Pelican is awesome too so I can't really say anything.

Just as good as the first solo CD. Great stuff. Good study/reading music.

Agreed.

Why doubt? I'm sure Nile has many fans in these parts. I'm one. Although frankly I lost interest after Annihilation of the Wicked because their albums just start to blur together. (Same issue with Vader, I don't feel a need to buy anything after Litany even though I really like their style). If this Nile album is really that great though, I might pick it up. In Their Darkened Shrines was the first album of theirs I liked and it continues to be my favorite. I like the two albums preceding it but ITDS just delivers the most goods at once IMO.

Interesting, I don't like In Their Darkened Shrines for the exact same reason you don't like Annihilation haha. It just seemed like they didn't try after Black Seeds of Vengeance and spit out the same stuff. And Annihilation sounded fresh to me.

Nile is one of those bands I prefer live. They always kicked my butt live, but on CD, I just couldn't get into it.

Also interesting, I find Nile extremely boring live even though I enjoy them on CD. It could be because I've seen them so many times though.

I tend to like every successive Nile album less than the previous one. My favorite is Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka. With each successive release, their sound gets clearer, but their songwriting gets... what is it... cheesier? I don't know.

I've never been bored by Nile live. In fact, they blew Cannibal Corpse off the stage the first time I saw them. Krisiun is pretty awesome live, too; I don't have any of their cds, but I always enjoy seeing them play.

Now, Pelican... THERE's a boring-ass band!

I don't know, I think there's enought variation between each successive Nile disc to keep things interesting, but this is one of those bands that kinda relies purely on taste, regardless, I'm looking forward to the latest. In Their Darkened Shrines is still their best IMO.

 Your system of ratings makes as much sense as the American system of measuring things
Hey... just because the rest of the world has decided to use a streamlined system, where everything is based on tens, doesn't mean we have to. Or have you forgotten, America is #1? :loco:

As for the new Nile... upon first listen, it's intriguing and I'll definitely give it a few more spins. The only other disc of theirs I've heard is Annihilation of the Wicked. I found it to be several flavors of awful. Comparatively speaking, this feels much more accessible, which I'm sure is what they were going for.

Has it leaked or something? I thought it wasn't coming out till November. The new track sounds amazing, and I've already seen some really positive reviews coming in.

But I am not surprised. I don't think Nile has a bad album, and they set a standard of excellent with Annihilation of the Wicked, but Ithyphallic was a monster too. I very much look forward to hearing the new album!

it's leaked i have it, but haven't had a chance to listen to it.

if promos have been sent out it will leak immediately. sadly enough reviewers are usually the main culprits to early leakage. not saying anything about anyone on this board, but speaking specifically about my releases leaking.

i am sure the new album will rock, but for me they can never top "Catacombs" that album rules!

I listened to it once, and while like it more than their last record, I need to play it more before I'm really convinced how much better it is. They seem to be into repeating a lot of ideas, and when they bring in the middle eastern/egyptian element, it can be maybe too little or subtle. I could go for them using it more often, and emphasizing it moreso than they do.

Oh, here we go again...
That's right baby, as soon as Brazil can crank out a 42 ton pick-up truck that gets 4 miles to the gallon (highway), during the middle of a gas crisis, you let me know. Until then, I'm measuring everything in inches. :loco:

By the way...

New Immortal >>> New Nile

At least after one listen each.

HAHAHAHA
If we ever do, I can guarantee you it'd be "7 kilometers to the gallon".

And new Immortal is brilliant as well. I am really enjoying it too. Check out new Hypocrisy yet?

Been listening to the new Nile all weekend. It is awesome, I wholeheartedly approve.
