Anybody got ENGL V30 impulses?

poida's completely obliterate out of those 3 samples above...

The one thing is that the tone from his comes from the low mids, where you've gotta make some serious cuts to get guitars sitting on a commercial mix... I'm still battling a bit with that, but I think I'll get a hold of it once I use it in a full mix.

sorry, but what does your first sentence mean?
so you really think I should cut low mids? Then it sounds so thin and fizzy and weak...

this is sooooooooo good. espacially since I own a engl pro and don't have to record our coming ep in the rehearsal rooms. thanks poidaobi your my hero
but to be a bit off a pain in the ass right here could you do a sneap edge version of this or even some more different mic types and position. would be the cream on top yer know

So I'm messing with my 5150 & Boogex using this impulse... & I can't even come close to getting the top end Poi was getting. Interesting... Anyone know of a "using impulses" primer for dummies?

I'll make some more on the weekend...I hate full time work...

just let me know what you want...

otherwise I'll just do a variety...eg:On axis/off axis...low presence /hi presence etc.

I'd love to hear these chuggy green channel settings:

crunch on
bright off

pre gain 5-6
lows 7
mids 2
highs 7
post gain 2
resonance 8.5
presence 7.5

try them out, it's the best tone I'm getting with my stock tubes 5150.

Hey Poi, just want to say "thanks very much" for all your efforts... I finally got things sounding pretty good & it's certainly got that "snarl" I've been after forever. If ever we should meet, I'll buy you the lapdancer of your choice & drinks to go with it. :kickass::kickass:

Now I just gotta save up & buy an Engl cab.... ...fuck, it never ends!

Got it figured out. Had to drop my original 1992 preamp tubes back in....

What kind of tubes are they, if you don't mind me asking? I haven't been too happy with the Sovtek 12AX7WBs that were in my 5150 head, although the Chinese tubes in my combo with a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in front have been doing pretty well...

They were the 8th gen Chinese tubes that shipped with the amp originally. The first owner of this particular amp worked in a guitar store & got one of the very first 5150s.... & now it's all mine. I just had to clean the puke, beer, fix the broken knobs & generally sterilize the thing as it was a "working amp" in his bar band for a good ten years.

I "upgraded" to a full matched & balanced set of 9th gen Chinese tubes about 8 months ago. Paid a premium for the matching service, too. I think with this Mesa cab, anyway, the 8th Gen ones sound better. I also down-biased my poweramp closer to the original setting & seem to be getting this amazing midrange thing going on now.... I'll post it in a few days.
I seem to remember someone mentioning that hot-biasing a 5150 sort of takes away from it what makes it unique. With a Marshall V30 cab, it's just too shrill & needs it, IMO. With a Mesa cab, though, all I can say is, "wow!" Cooling off those power tubes really sounds good.

Now if I can only find my original set of power tubes.... well, the last one anyway. Took 'em out back in '05 for a set of JJ's. They were Sovtek 6l6GB's... I found 3 of 4. How fucking useful is that? :hypno:

No problems Oz et al.

I'm still having nightmares about the sine wave going threw my 5150 and almost blowing my head off....arghh..:lol:

I think that clip sounds great Ermz considering you are just using software sims!

Yeah, there's some weird stuff going on with the mids which I couldn't remedy with EQ. I think it could have something to do with using my ME-50 as a preamp, not having a DI, and running into a Soundblaster Audigy...

There's potential though, for sure, especially if there's a good mix to hide some of the finer points of the digital tone. All thanks to yer impulse. Considering that was the first one you made, I'd say we can call it 'severe beginner's luck' hahah.

what mics do you have? if you have two 57's I'd love two have a fredman styled impulse. and like guitar hack did with the on/between/off in different distances would be awsome. my absolutly favorite with guitar hacks was/is sneap edge. so that would be on top of my wishlist. I don't know how this is made although. maybe someone can tell. thanks again. the impulse is really great

So I will try to post some impulses at some point for people. Will deconvolver for PC deconvolve those sweep files?

If not can I post them and have someone run them through something for me?

EDIT: I will do some bass amp impulses as well.

Let me know what sinesweep you use and I can easily do it for you...

There is another way to get an impulse response btw.
You should play a riff and record both the preamp out and the mic'd cab.

Then you have to use the preamp-out as you Test-Tone and the mic'd clip as the File-To-Process in your deconvolver...
