I need to set up a way to accept credit card and paypal payments, and I think I want to integrate it with a shopping cart. Customers will only have 3 things to buy, so I don't have a bunch of inventory or anything. What can somebody recommend?

It looks like that Paypal thing might have some solutions. Can I use them for credit card transactions with customers that don't have Paypal? They make it sound like that can be done. Also, I don't know HTML. I use Microsoft Frontpage for all the designing. The Paypal stuff makes it sound like I need to learn code.

If it's easier, lurch, email me, if you can. npearce@ultimatemetal.com

Another question:

Would most people be hesitant to buy something if you have to have a Paypal account? I know a lot of people that don't have one. Will I lose customers if Paypal is my only option?

well ... when you have the paypal gateway on your site ... when making a purchase customers dont actually "create" an account with Paypal ... they just give their info as on any other site.

personally, I am well aware of the hesitation most people have with Paypal, but really it is safer than having their personal and CC info sent directly to a website or a third party merchant account ... with the paypal way ONLY paypal has their info (not you)

what are will you be selling? are they high ticket items?
will you ship overseas?

paypal is actually a great option, especially if you target the young, as they usually have a paypal balance, but do not have a credit card.

What are you selling? Some will definately be scared off no matter what, especially if they can get it without fuss (They just don't know how convenient PayPal is until they've tried) elsewhere

My wife and I are setting up a website related to her therapy/counseling work. We're selling a life/health "program". There are 3 versions of it. One person would buy only 1 version. I like that Paypal BUY NOW button thing, but it made it sound like the buyer would have to create a paypal account if they don't already have one. Is there some other paypal feature I need to look at, or am I missing something with that BUY NOW button stuff.

I'm fully aware of the benefits of PayPal, but I don't know how many customers might be lost if they had to create a paypal account. If you're saying even that isn't necessary, I'm all for it.

Oh . . . and nothing will need to be shipped. The "program" is either going to be emailed or downloaded. I won't need anybodies address. The programs will be around $100 each.

the checkout process is not anymore difficult than any other website ...

all websites will require a buyer to leave personal info when making the purchase ...

lets put it this way, your other alternative from Paypal is getting a merchant account. These are great also, but will run you about $25-$50 a month in fees and usually a few hundred to set it up. Most will try to tie you into a long term contract as well.

if you had a large inventory, I would say get one of them instead ... but for 3 items it is not worth it.

OK.

Next question, since you've been so helpful.

I'd like the buyer to fill out a consent form before the purchase. I think I can get the secure server stuff set up, but after they click "submit" I want the consent form sent to me and the buyer directed to the Paypal payment page. After they make the payment, I'd like the "program" sent to the buyer immediately (via email or whatever). Is all that possible? It seems kind of technical, so I'm looking into alternatives.

it's certainly possible, not something I could do myself. I will ask one of my programming guys ... or maybe Erik knows a way.
