I hope everybody on the bbs here in So Cal is safe from the fires! Geez. For those who may have been forced to evacuate I send hopes that you and your families and homes are okay. Take care. 2 people I know had to evacuate. Not fun.
The Brea fire is about 10 miles or so from where I live... My sister's husband's boss lives in Sylmar, last we heard he was ok and wasn't evacuated, but that was this morning.
Oh dear. I feel sorry for those who lost their homes this month. I only hope the fires will be extinguished soon, so that everyone affected will be able to rebuild their lives.
My home is right down-wind from both of the OC fires. The air quality has been terrible, especially for one of my kids who has allergies. Whole place looks like one huge ashtray...
But that's nothing compared to those who lost their homes... My heart goes out to them. They are using my old high school (Katella) as an evacuation shelter.
The good news is that the winds have finally died down so everything should be OK now.
Yeah, I know how that feels. Back in 1991, while I was still living in the Philippines, the sky was gray from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, and it was like that for several months.
a friend of mine who has gone to your paladino's shows lives across the street
from the sylmar fire. he was up friday night watering down the complex grounds. then saturday he had to pack as much as he could into his old road runner and probably went to his parents' house. i'm sure the cat was p.o.'d
i called and didn't catch him, i'll have to call again tonight and see if his building is o.k. i could smell the fire over at my house, south of mcmurphy's
Wasn't so good for my family in Yorba Linda. Folks were away in Florida. They were airborne by the time the news hit so they never knew. Came home to find they couldn't return to their house. Dad is on a lot of medication and he only packed enough for the trip, but he got by.
One sister was at work and called the other, who lives in Fullerton, and asked her to go to the house to get her dog outta there. If you know YL at all, my folks house is past Gypsum Canyon Rd. on La Palma and Nicky had to park about 3 miles away at a shopping plaza, the one with a former Ralphs that got converted to an ice rink, and walk down La Palma to the house, in that heat and with the smoke. The RV park just off Gypsum Canyon had already gone up in smoke at this point. She got the dog and was hoofing it back when some EMTs saw her and gave her a ride, sparing her any more sweltering.
Fortunately the house was spared. The folks spent the night with the sister who retrieved the dog, who couldn't have been thrilled to have that walking furball leaving white fur all over her carpet and furniture.
