ok 2 things to add here.....
Macalpine has ALWAYS been a betterpianist than guitarist, He has his own thing that he does when hes solo. Vai hired him for a specific role on this tour, to back him up. You cant judge what the guy does as a backup guitarst. He is actually surpisingly versatile. When i met him at NAMM 2 years ago we saw each other at quite a few booths and he was constanty plying mind numbing stuff....
As far as VAI playing a big venue like MSG, he doenst have a big enough following. the venue would be so empty it would cost him money to play yhe gig. I saw G3 with Kenny Wayne (G3-2) At jones beach in the late 90s and they didnt even hae this place packed. When i saw GT3-4 in texas they didnt pack the venue either. Guitarist tours just arent going to draw the kind of crowd that warrants them to play a big veue like that. If your from new york the biggest place they are going to play is Jones Beach or MulChahees in Wantagh ...
