I bought The Redemption CD and unlike some, I think the vocals by Rick Mythiasin are oustanding. I know Steel Prophet by name and know Rick was the singer for the band for over ten years, but I don't know their material. Could anyone describe what their sound is like ?

the period of Steel Propher that i like is probably the least popular one, and i mean their "The Goddess Principle" album which is fuckin KILLER u.s. power metal with lots of Iron Maiden influences and Fates Warning "The Spectre Within" era.But what i like most is their two demos "Inner Ascendance" and the first one(dont remember its name). As time passed they evoluted their style trying not to be that similar to Iron Maiden, "Messiah" is a very good album, also "Dark Hallunications", which reminds some less thrash-y Agent Steel too.
Still one of the most underrated u.s. power metal bands.

I agree that Steel Prophet is one of the most underrated bands ever.
They are much more than a "Maiden clone", their influences go from 70's prog rock to death metal!
Their melodies are outstanding, Rick has a very strong voice (beware Bryant, his vocals are a bit different in Redemption, lower), even if the last album (Unseen) is a disapointment. Now I don't expect much from them, but they're one of my fave bands of the 90's.

I suggest you to listen to Messiah, Goddess Principle, Book of the Dead and Dark Hallucinations if you like US progressive heavy/speed Metal.

I'll keep those in mind. I did download a couple of samples from the Steel Prophet website, but they were from the newest album. They weren't bad, nor did they really hit me. I will look into their stuff though. I think Rick is one hell of a singer and I want to hear more of him.
I'm worried that Corey won't be able to match Rick's performance on the Redemption in some areas, but he may be better in others as he is a gifted vocalist as well. I guess I'll find that out in September though.

Yeah, the newest album can't match Messiah or Dark Hallucinations, both are much better.

And Rick's new main band is NEW EDEN, I've heard the demo of their forthcoming (3rd) album, it's fuckin' awesome! Tons of improvements since the last one...
I think it will please most Steel Prophet and Agent Steel fans.

New Eden's flaw was always that crappy vocalist they had... not to mention all of the good people went to Destiny's End. (RIP)

And now Steel Prophet is being fronted by Nadir D' Priest (of D'Priest/London)... Give me a fucking break!

As far as the Prophet.. all I need are Continuum, Into the Void, and Inner Ascendence and I think I got 'em all. The Goddess Principle is ok, But I love Dark Hallucinations (their cover of Fates warning's The Apparition is awesome), Messiah and Book Of The Dead. Unseen is ok, but their guitarist is a jackass for making Rick sing a certain way and for all of the mudslinging in the press about drug use.. I'm lucky I got to see Steel Prophet before Rick left, when they opened for a reformed HELSTAR here in Houston.

I still need to pick up the Redemption cd. Good??

Sounds cool. After I pick up the CDs I need to familiarize myself with all of the PP4 bands, I'll definitely get some Steel Prophet. The Redemption CD is awesome. I consider it quite progressive, but not an extreme style. It is considered power by some. The CD is very rythm guitar oriented and it dominates the mix. Rick doesn't use the super high vocals, like I have heard in his Steel Prophet samples, but he did a great job an any event.

I think their first singer (on the first album) was quite good, but I agree about the guy on the last release.

I'm pretty sure their new album with Rick will kick Steel Prophet's ass...
