They are cheap as shit and I thought I would get one. However, cheap always comes with a price so has anyone here ever played one/noticed any shittiness about 'em?

I've always heard TERRIBLE comments on both the Gibbie & Epi Gothic-

I also tested one in a shop for a student of mine some months ago.. Awful thing (felt weird, heavy on the head/fucked up balance, sterile sounding)

not sure if the gothic explorer is that same as the Korina explorer (which i think it is) but i have been playing the korina explorer for a little over 2 years now. Its my go to guitar over my ibanez 7 string, my LTD and my jackson. I walked in to guitar center and played a shit ton of guitars and when i got to the explorer i instantly fell in love. When you play it at first if you really dont like it because you have to get use to the big and bulky bridge, but after you get used to that and you set it up to your own preference it is amazing. I have played my explorer from standard all the way to drop A with no problems at all. The stock headstock tuners are solid, and my guitar never goes out of tune. I did play an actual Gibson explorer once (although it hadnt been setup in over 2 years, felt like shit) but even after that i really didnt like it. Just go play one and decide for yourself

Edit: After about a year i changed my pups to EMG 81/85 and it sounds incredible. I havent had too much experience with a expensive guitar ($2000 range) but i have never felt the need because my explorer does everything i need it too. Although i really want to get a guitar from amfisound =D

Opps I missd the Explorer thing
I was talking specifically about Les Paul Gothics.. Dunno about the Explorers though.. Katja fan :headbang:

I've played the epiphone gothic sg and les paul and thought they were both solid instruments.
Mahogany body + neck, slap in some good pickups and you'd have a great guitar for very little money.

Like I said it's cheap as shit so I could pretty much get the guitar, a pair of EMGs and a case for like 3/5 of what I'd pay for the other guitars I'm looking at. That's why I got interested in them, but I'm thinking it's gotta be too good to be true.

That's the thing with guitars.. Not made by robots (yet) so you can get a cheapo from n excellent luthier/rice harvester, or an awful one with a pricey boutique/sig label attached..

I had a gothic LP and didn't like it, heavy as shit, horrible pickups and I later realized that LP weren't guitars for me, so that might have had something to do with how much I hated it. I think I sold it 6 months after I bought it

I've played a lot of Epi LPs - great ones (Ultra) and bad ones, too-
The Gothic has been among the worst..

The Gibson Gothic II explorer (not the I, the II) is amazing. I missed out on a deal to get one in brand new condition and a case for $750cdn >.< /Sad Panda.

Anyways, I have no experience with the Epiphone version. The Gibson Gothic II though is my cup of tea. Awesome.
