Arch Enemy - The Root of All Evil

Vicious Robbie

Faithful Neon Dreamer
Oh my God! If there's anything you need to avoid like the plague this year it's this record. I love AE and I have their entire discography but even a die-hard fan like myself can't accept this as being nothing more than a money grabbing, time-buying manouver by the band. Believe me, there was no need for this record's existence. NONE. Michael said that he felt that that these new versions of their old material was mind blowing. It's not, plain and simple. Not only the performances are a bit slower and tamer than the originals but the worst blasphemy lies with his girlfriend. Therein lies the true root of all the bad that there is in this record. Not only Angela lacks the speed of vocalization that Johan possesed, she completely takes away the power from the originals. I don't mind her shrieking on her own material but her delivery on these classics it's just disrespectful. I will never understand Michael's obsession with trying to erase the existence of the first three records with Johan. Like it or not, they were the ones that put the band on the map and they don't need fixing. Johan may have been weak live (I really have my doubts about that as well) but he sure could turn in a great performance in the studio.

The Root of all Evil: Angela's desecration of the old material. :puke:

Interesting, I became a fan of AE with Angela already at the helm and have never listed to their old stuff... I will most probably dig this album then, since I have nothing to compare it to :p

You know what though? I such a fucking "homer" that I'll pick up a copy of the new cd just to listen to it...:D

I actually encourage you to do so. I've always believed that you can't always believe what people say and you have to make your own opinion of things. That's the spice of life: the endless points of view :)

The you won't have a problem with this album, Pabla. Still, I encourage you to listen to some of their old stuff if you get the chance, there are some great gems there :saint:

I became a fan with Burning Bridges and Love the old stuff...Wages of Sin had the old feeling with Angela and ruled. The last 3 are poop. This should be good if it's produced right.

I bought a copy of the album this weekend. Like Robbie said it's nothing spectacular. I could live without hearing this album ever again. Not because it's horrible, but because it comes off as Arch Enemy trying recreate history. I don't care for that. I think they would have been better off recording a live E.P. with a handful of tracks from the early years and that would have been more respectful than messing with the early stuff...

That sucks to hear, I was hoping for some good material. Ah well, at least I can try to youtube the songs and hear them for free. Better than wasting money on it, if it really does suck.

I say buy it and make up your own mind. Like I said it's not awful but it certainly doens't match the originals...

I picked it up and posted in the NP thread today! Not bad..not the best disc I ever bought from them but one that won't be collecting dust either. :kickass:

I would have to disagree, while most of it is shit hearing songs like bridge of destiny rerecorded is fucking awesome. It's definitely worth buying but it's fairly cool for some stuff, I relaly wish she didn't butcher some of the parts so much though.

I'm sorry man, but I've heard everything since Angela joined the band and I have to say that I love it all, including Root of All Evil. Everything about this band does it for me. The double bass drum driving the whole thing. The Ammott brothers and yes... Angela. I think it kicks ass. That's just my opinion. What can I say. I LOVE DEATH METAL!!! :kickass::headbang:
