then let me distract you...

have you seen how Barack Obama has been given the Dem Convention keynote address, and he hasn't even been elected yet! They recognize a rising star when they see one.

But this is ultra funny:

I don't know how this would work since NUGENT lives in MICHIGAN but....

Ditka To Illinois Republicans: Not Interested

...Republican sources tell WMAQ that the Republican Party will now focus on two potential candidates: Jim Oberwies, who finished second in the primary for this nomination, and John Cox, who ran a couple of years ago. Both have the distinction of being multimillionaires.

But another name surfacing is that of rocker, outspoken conservative and gun-rights activist Ted Nugent.

"He grew up in Arlington Heights. He went to St. Viator High School," Cook County Republican Chair Gary Skoien told WMAQ. "He has more connection to Illinois than Hillary Clinton had to New York, and he's been a very articulate spokesperson on constitutional issues. He would be a very interesting candidate."

Nugent couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday night.

There is actually quite a few sports celebrities part of government in the US. SI had an article about it last week. Bill Bradley, Steve Largent etc.. Some jocks are not total dumbasses, Bill Bradley is a Princeton and a Oxford graduate before going to the NBA...

We had Ken Dryden elected as representative in the last election and as well as being one of the top goalie of all times is a successful lawyer and businessman...

Ditka was clearly a bad idea though.

I'm less concerned with the individual dumbassness of individual sports celebrities than I am about the fact that their lives and behaviour have been validated by their participation in a culture of physicality, brutality, and yes, dumbassness, and there's no way that's not going to be iterated somehow in their actions/viewpoints as members of our representative government.

It might happen but I don't see a party endorsing a dumbass at the risk of him being a public embarassment for the party. If the said jock is intelligent enough to be awarded the trust fo those people then I believe they are worthy candidates. I really don't see how physicality being a problem, martial arts being a prime example of physical training toward a goal of emotional and spiritual growth being a good idea. When jocks do the exact same thing you have great things happening, see Phil Jackson for what I am talking about. Brutality, I'd rather not go into. It is all up to the individuals.

I know that conflicts are resolved by either out-thinking or out-muscling, and people who work with, say, computers, or in politics, or as artists tend to solve problems by out-thinking a lot greater percentage of the time than people who play sports for a living and solve a percentage of their problems by out-muscling.

What sports are we talking about here? Boxing? I agree. American football, to a certain degree but the game is played on the sidelines, it is the coaches out-thinking the opponent, the players are basically chess pieces. Football, or soccer, they aren'T even supposed to touch each other, how is that out-muscling anybody? Hockey, to a certain degree yeah. Basketball, some part of it is, some parts is not. Tennis, totally. Cycling, there is strategy but it is mostly how you can perform day after day. etc.... You cannot generalize like that because it simply isn't true.
