I have the quote cuz I am not a fucking prog snob, and Mikael summed up basiccly what I feel about music in general. I hate it when I goto a show, and everyone comments on technique, blah blah blah, I can outplay half the bands I listen to, what does that really matter? It means shit, in the end its all about the emotion and the power of a song. Which is the same reason I can listen to a Cindy Lauper song like "Time after Time" and get a more emotional feeling than listening to "Communion and The Oracle" Dont get me wrong I love symphony X, but nowadays, a few things dont impress me anymore, technical and shreddy guitar playing (its cool if done in the right context, romeo does it right IMO) and speed. Listen, I am in no way shape or form a Zeppelin fan, but I can say one thing Page plays with fucking conviction, and maybe people who arent musicians want to hear someone spill their soul all over a guitar and NOT shred minor7ths up an octace with a downscale run in harmonic minor. I happen to like both in one form or another. I used to be anal about sloppy players, but now I can care less, I enjoy a well executed solo just as much as the next guy, but if some dude is playing his heart out on the guitar then that IMO hold equal stature.
And yes I wouldve quoted the damn thing no matter who wrote it, unfortunately theres to many god damn prog snobs here to ever see music in such a way is mentioned in the quote, and I am yet to see anyone here that has posted anything similar.
Seeing Ark at PP last year, Ostby mustve copped every Malmsteen an 80s shredder stage move of the past 20 yrs...not to mention a few licks, give me Mike Romeos whole tone shredding and head bopping hehe over Ostby anyday.
