Article i wrote on listening

lol...

i dont think people hear things differently, i think its more on how sound is perceived - more intelligent/experienced minds can depict certain elements but that does not necessarily include musicians. there are ton of producers who cant play anything that well or have not even been in a band. most people hear a "good song" by the quality of the production. a convincing ensemble with sell any lyrics. though i have to agree with most of the facts in your article, i doubt most people have an ear for things being in tune, besides being able to detect auto tuner, or any of those other things. while most people may have heard of those terms i doubt its ever on their minds because the majority of our population listens to popular music, and most popular music has a pleasant sound, there aren't many things to dislike or nuances to pickup on. so while some get pickier on modern sound theres nothing you can do to change it now. if your out of tune, youre not a professional. if your mix is dull and flat, youre not a professional. if the guitars are too sharp, youre not a professional, and unfortunately theres great music that may not sound the best and is often thrown under the bus. there is an industry standard for quality. so whats the point in even caring about such shallow things. either you like it or you dont. perhaps even discussing it is just pointless. i say just enjoy it the way it is. if you cant then toss it out. if you do dig it, see em live.

i guess my point is im just being observant, your article just triggered some thoughts. there is so much stupid shit involved in production these days that im no longer judging a band by the way they sound but by their musicality and talent as musicians. dont get me wrong, i like a nice production, but if the players cant put out a decent live show or one that rivals their cd production then im not digging their pro tooled cds. eh eh eh tdwp. eh eh eh.

haha...well aren't you a ray of sunshine! :p I'm not really writing for the 'popular' music listener / producer, since I can't really come from that perspective. I get what you're saying about the professional standard though and that applies to Metal for sure as well. However like I think you are also saying the music can still transcend that. Maybe all discussion is pointless but what the fuck isn't really!

yeah exactly. just for me, im a big clown :u-huh: and i hate talking like i own a 30 mil house and bugaatis, or being like these guys -

it takes a lot for people to tie me into an intelligent conversation, and if i ever do its for some type of correction or debate. im not one to just talk abut why grass is green - so this is why i say whats the point. if you ask me, theres a point to everything except serious conversation, thats just aesthetic for the brain. you will never be able to depict from your own brain why the way you are, or like the things you like because chances are you would like something if it sounded sonically different. notes and articulation is what music is, and my belief in that alllows me to listen to the shittiest of recordings and appreciate the music as it is because i can.
