Any fans around here?

I'm absolutely mad for the "Stay" and "Monster's Ball" soundtracks...

Is there any other music that paints such a melancholy portrait in one's mind? I've found just a few examples, such as the "Silent Hill" soundtracks, a Norwegian artist named "Eivind Aarset"...nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

It's very rare to find music of this type, done so close to perfection. Any suggestions? Something gut-wrenching and very genuine.

Ulver.

And yea, I absolutely loved the Stay soundtrack. That movie in general was spectacular.

I'm very familiar with Ulver's stuff :) "A quick fix of melancholy"...just perfect. Also, that song "Porn Piece" is amazing.
"Stay" probably ranks as one of my favorite movies...i try not to ever watch it though, because I have a tendency to memorize things very quickly, and then i'm bored with it.

I have the same problem with movies and music, becoming tired of everything if I over-expose myself to it. I don't listen to much 'ambient' stuff like that, but I recently discovered this band on myspace by chance, and it's incredibly beautiful. "liange" and "The Three-Day Blow" are both incredibly moving. It may not exactly fit in with the melancholy mood, but it's certainly aurally pleasing anyway.
