So I've been recording a bunch of stuff to practice on. I figured some people here might want to try this one to. It's only the first minute of the song because I'm lazy and i hate editing.

Link to Di's and midi
Here's a more realistic bass that was done with trilogy http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6499089/Bass2.wav

The playing's not perfect and it's edited pretty tightly. Also, the bass is programed and preprocessed. The midi is included for that as well.

Here's my mix: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6499089/I used to have a best friend 4.mp3

Guitars are le456
Drums are a combination of slate/sturgis samples

Let me know what you think.

oh and the tempo is off too, the song is actually like...198 I believe. not sure, I do like the guitar tone though

Yeah, i just used the midi from a guitar pro file. I didn't realize it was that different until i was about done.

Sick dude :) love the power, cymbals do sound a little to thin in the beginning and it sounds like all the attack on them have been lost, need to hear some more stick hitting em, otherwise spot on :) What reverb you using on the snare?

I always suck with cymbals. There is the slate room and some Bricasti chamber impulse on it.

MMMh ive yet to try cymbal impulses on a recording to be honest, thx for the idea :) i usually just use SSD cymbals straight with the SSD room mics on as well, still not great but it;ll def sound more natural without that impulse i rate! Or maybe try another impulse!
Guitar tone is kick ass though :)

No, the impulse is on the snare not the cymbals. The cymbals don't have any reverb on them

Sounds really good man , are the kick and snare bought on Joey's site? I already have Slate drums but have been thinking about picking up that pack. Also , did how did you EQ the guitar? I have tried the LE456 before but didn't really like the sound of it. Did you use a tube screamer before it?

Thanks man. Kick is just slate kick 10 with dominion smashing all the transients. I think joey only has one kick up and its meh. But the snare is the sturgis snare 1. It's only $5 and its massive.

There's the tse 808 before guitars with standard settings. Then low passed down to 8k with cuts at 800 and 4k. 4k is a bitch with all amp sims. The biggest difference in tone probably comes from the impulses though. I'm using Sperimental's mesa traditional with catharsis awesometime about 50/50 in lecab.

Thanks for the info man ! I'll probably pick up that snare it sounds mean. I'm using kick 10 in a current mix. I also am using the catharis impulses, along with the spreshigh one. What is dominion? I use decapitator on drums sometimes but I've never heard of dominion.

Thanks again for the info man. I downloaded that program , do you have tips for setting it up for kicks? Thanks dude

One last question , I'm at Joey's sample store , but there are two snare samples. Which one did you use here?

I set the sustain really short and turned the level almost all the way down with the x2 bock ticked. Didn't do anything with the attack side.

Under custom drum samples its Joey Sturgis Snare 1

sounds really good to me.. i also tried the DI's, pretty clean, well played :)
i'll give it a try too

Its just edited really tight and played with new strings, but thanks

Thanks again for the info. One last question for Kick 10 - do you leave the overhead mic on or turn it off in SSD? Also did you leave the dynamics at 60 or whatever the normal setting is? It sounds like the overheads are turned off for kick 10 in your mix.

No overhead and I didn't change the dynamics
