Asphyxiate was founded in 2006 by Jarno Verhelst
(Vocals, Lyrics) and Wim Oers (Music, Guitar) after the
demise of the Death/Thrash Metal Band Butcher they
started in 2005 with former guitarist and comrade Yannick
Wilryckx. After usual line-up changes and internal struggles
Wim started to find and expand his musical identity,
heavily influenced by other genres such
as Classical Music and Jazz.

By late 2008, they finally managed to get a stable and
like-minded line-up with Jens Cautereels (Bass, Lyrics),
Sébastien Thienpont (Drums) and Stijn van Bever (Guitar).
The hard work paid off resulting in the Demo
“Ominous Depth”, which will be released in 2009.

On this demo you can enjoy the quality
of Death Metal, merged with Fusion influenced
drum patterns and slight musical references to
Jazz/Fusion and Classical Music. Paying attention to beautiful
harmonies, complex rhythms and a lot of variety,
Asphyxiate’s music can be described as easy-listening,
adventurous and of course not for the weak-hearted.
Asphyxiate’s strength can’t be found in extremes,
the main ambition is to bring the best of different
worlds together.

Small news update-9/11

Hi all,
Things are going great at the asphyxiate camp,our first demo "ominous depth" sold out and we are working hard on writing new material.
We played at the rockcafe in Leuven a few days ago wich was really great!
