Athena's Wake - Witches

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this one. It's not often I work on deathcore. Aussie band called 'Athena's Wake' - a bunch of stupidly proficient musicians, and solid songwriters to boot. The song was tracked by Anthony Iorio & Andrew Scott. Mixed and mastered by yours truly.

I was still going through a big 'natural drums' phase here, so aside from the kick, which the band triggered in the studio, everything is au naturale. As always, if you have any questions I'm happy to answer! Take care and hopefully enjoy.

Sounds great. The drums tones are cool and remind me the Metal Machine to some extent, except the cymbals, of course.

This mix is awesome, dude! What did you use for guitars?
Did they only do the single with you, or will there be more songs soon?

For guitars I believe they used a 6505+ into Mesa OS (greenback instead of V30). The guitar had EMGs. For now they've just done the single. From what I gather there's an album's worth of material brewing, but no recording plans in motion yet for it.

Awesome! That's interesting about the greenbacks. I thought the guitars had a touch more bite than the usual V30 tone.

You should try and sway them into having you mix and master the album

I would definitely love that. The guys are heading in a much more traditional 'death/black metal' direction after this. More Nile/Morbid Angel/Behemoth and less 'core'. Always wanted to mix a traditional death record.
