Hey Guys! Nice to hear you are having fun with this CD...:D

I was wondering if you could clear up the Intro to 'Paint the Picture' issue? Some fans think it sounds an awful lot like XANADU.

I hear it as well....Coincidence, or a little inside 'tribute'? ;)

Take care,
still hoping for an east coast concert swing......HINT.

Hey it does sound like it a little? But so many parts of music really do sound like other parts?

To be honest I never really gave it a thought myself when Doug first gave the demo to me to check out? The song is actually a really cool tune to play because it flows so well! It is so much more up-tempo than Xanadu? It is really cool live too!

We have heard so much about this one :) damn enough already! :) I am laughing really! but OK it sounds a tad like it :) I remember reading someone just ripping us for it and really being amused :)

If a part is gonna sound Rushlike I am for it!

I don't think "Paint the Picture" sounds like "Xanadu". Even when I hear some Rush elements in the music of Enchant, it's not so close. Btw, I started listening to Rush a few weeks before I got into Enchant. Rush helped me to get "prepared" to start listening to Enchant.

I had a problem with other Enchant song - "Seeds of Hate". It's one of my faves off "Blink" but when I first heard it, the main riff remembered me of some very well known tune - and I could not remember which one! Now I think it was "Lady in Black" by Uriah Heep, but still am not sure as I don't have this song in my collection and can't make a comparison.

Hi....if you listen to the first 2-3 minutes, and then the very end of XANADU, and the opening riff to PTP, it's almost identical.... :OMG:

It's almost inevitable that you hear well-known themes ring through every now and then with so many artists and songs And btw. I hear Rush influences on every Enchant CD. Maybe that's why I like them so much. How about a comparison to Kansas?

My 2 cents.

So many of you have brought up an interesting topic for discussion. Since I wrote PTP, I'll take responsibility for it. To be totally honest, I didn't realize at the time that I was playing part of a Rush riff when I wrote PTP. I was trying to do a comtemporary, heavy, Genisis thing. It wasn't until way after Blink came out that someone, I think it was on this board, brought up the Rush comparision. When I dug up Farwell to the Kings, an album I've not heard in 8 to 10 years...I was blown away! I couldn't believe how similar the riff was to what I had written a year before. I felt some what sad and depressed actually. I thought, Fuck! I don't want to be ripping off one of the greatest bands of our Era!
After much thought on the subject I realized that Rush, as well as many other bands, have influenced my writing style so much over the years, that I'm not even aware of thier influence anymore...it just is there!
I hope that Rush never hears the song myself. I wouldn't want them to be pissed off at me.

Tribute? No. A tribute would be a conscious thing.

Plagiarism? I don't think so. That would assume that I knew it sounded like Rush and I did it anyway.

Influence? I think so. Even if I'm not aware of it, Rush has made a very, very strong musical imprint in my mind. Something I'll have a hard time breaking I'm sure.

Be certain that I will be very conscious in the future of where the ideas I get come from. I don't want to be a clone of any band and we have tried so hard over the years to make our own sound, even if it has been in vain at times.

EAST COAST?!?!?!?!?!?! Possible East Coast dates? Oh please don't torture and tease me like that! I've yet to see one of my all time bands play live....would be a DREAM to see Enchant play live....le sigh

Ya know, I hear that people have said there is a Rush style to Enchant's music. Personally, I don't hear it....HOWEVER, the one similarity that I may find between both excellent bands is the thoughtful and insightful lyrics about everyday things and thoughts that happen in the life of humans. NOt just another love song...altho Enchant writes and plays them well...but about all kinds of things that happen to us..thoughts we have...feelings we experience. That is about where I could stretch it in the comparisons. Apples and oranges to me otherwise.

LONG LIVE ENCHANT! ;)

Doug....I honestly did not mean to imply that you ripped RUSH off...Heavens no. I was just 'blown away' myself, since PTP was the first Enchant tune I heard....and the reaction was IMMEDIATE....After I was brought back to reality(the song KICKS ARSE!), I pulled out AFTK, and listened back-to-back....

I had a similar experience with Iron Maiden and Papa Roach....I heard their first single, LAST RESORT, and immediately heard a riff from, I believe, Hallowed Be Thy Name(around 1:17 into the song - right after Bruce's 'Sands of Time for me are running low.....running low....'

Perhaps I'm just a music geek - with Too Much Time on My Hands... :loco:

No worries. I'm not offended or anything. I just felt the need to clear the air. If I had time right now I'd probably listen to all of our albums and see if I can pin any other parts to bands we've loved over the years...ok, that would be over doing it!:loco: Who's got that kind of time anyway?

Ed's here to do some bass tracks, gotta run!

Doug

...since we're on the subject, the intro to "Ultimate Gift" reminds me of "Always With Me, Always With You" by Joe Satriani...

...there are only 12 notes... it's bound to happen every now and then... ;-)
