OK, so on your suggestion, I went along and had a bit of a gander, and, I'll admit, was thinking that this thing is the best thing since sliced bread. So I'm happily downloading anything and everything I can think off (Blaze, Iced Earth, Stratovarius, bit o' Kiss etc). Suddenly someone decides that I've got something that they want (Psycho Motel, if you must know) and I think "cool, giving back to the community". After I've sent about 3 songs, I just happen to check my firewall logs.

630 Mb sent!!!

Yes, that MEGAbytes

So I shut the satellite thing down and the count stops. Start it up, someone gets more stuff, count takes off again. Shut it down, move all shared songs to another folder, start it up again alls fine, till I download another song someone want. Upload count rockets again!

WTF is going on here? Heard of this before? Any suggestions? I've checked the logs, nothing seems amiss, and my firewall's never been wrong before (course, it's never been so high that I've needed to check it, either).

If you haven't seen this, then consider it a friendly warning to watch out for it.

Im not sure how so much could be uploaded, i have not had that problem myself.
If you move the files into another folder then they won't be uploaded.

It's OK Gavin, I've since started using some more sofisticated netwrok monitoring tools, and it turns out that my firewall is a piece of lying crap :)

I was on last night again, somebody took a song, firewall said 380 M transferred, proper tools said 8 M (which was the size of the song). So I'm happy again.
